why won't Canelo meet Golovkin at a Catchweight....

A catchweight at 157lbs with a 80-20 money split in favor of Canelo.....boxing needs this fight for September but GGG has to give in to Canelo's demands.....

He might. I wouldn't read too much into either side's posturing at the moment. It's never wise to concede anything before negotiations begin. We'll know soon enough.

Why would Golovkin accept both a catchweight and a blatantly unfair split? Either or is fine, but not both.

Canelo is definitely a bigger name, but people act as if 150k against Lemieux was a massive failure. Its fairly decent for a 1st PPV, against a clearly limited, unknown fighter in Lemieux for a Kazakh who barely speaks English. You're deluded if you think Canelo-Lemiuex would do more than 300k.

In a Golovkin-Canelo matchup, the excitement and drawing power of the fight isn't just Canelo. Its the matchup between two hard punchers with great chins, where the star would be facing huge adversity. Golovkin would be an integral part to the intrigue, making 80/20 a ridiculous split.

He'd do it for Mayweather, so why not when there's a title on the line AND more money?

Because Floyd fights in a different division.

Also golovkin gets 45 percent if it goes to purse bid. Why the hell would he take 20 percent? Are people really this ******?

I don't think Canelo-GGG would sell anywhere near a Floyd-GGG fight. Floyd is the greatest selling PPV fighter of all time, the most popular fighter in the sport. The fact he'd be an underdog, or anywhere close to it, would sell like crazy. It'd also mean a lot more to beat Floyd (even as a bigger guy) than it would to beat Canelo who has already lost pretty decisively. I really don't agree that the two scenarios are comparable

Even still team GGG aren't doing themselves any favors at the negotiating table by offering to come down for Floyd and demanding a catchweight for Ward then turn around and say to hell with catchweights when it comes to the biggest realistic fight that can be made for him. I'm not defending Canelo, the 155 catchweight is BS. But forcing Canelo to vacate does nothing for GGG's career compared to just whooping Canelo's ass for the title on PPV in front of millions.

I think GGG would have gone to 157/158 if he was offered the fight this past September.

Let's wait and see. Neither side is willing to make concessions that they'll later be held to before negotiations even start. That would just be ******. We've seen this scenario play out before - Canelo - Floyd and Dawson - Ward spring to mind. As much as anything conceding on weight now means less leverage on the purses later.

                  2 Things I believe:

Golovkin will agree to 157 if that's what it takes.

Oscar won't put Canelo in against GGG this year even if he were to agree to 155.

I don't see why Canelo wouldn't. Team GGG seems like they don't want the fight unless it's at 160 and would rather wait and see Canelo stripped before fightingunder 160 (and that's their right) but I'd bet Canelo would do 157.
