Someone he knew recently died after a knockout loss. It's possible that this struck a cord in Conor. Or maybe he got put down hard in sparring or something and had a Ricky Hatton style pre-fight breakdown, where instead of going into the fight and getting iced like Hatton he just retired altogether.

So a 10 day camp drunk Diaz retired him? Lol

I see your point, but the fact that we enjoy something doesn't mean it should be allowed. There are people who enjoy killing, but I think most people recognize it's messed up. The only time society gives it a pass appears to be when a person is killing "for them," as in the military. That's still wrong, IMO.

It may not be until we're faced with death/physical deterioration that we actually begin to comprehend that it was all a mistake. That choice should not be in a person's hands. And, yes, as unpopular as it would be, it should be extended to everything else that's unhealthy, including beer, cigarettes, unhealthy food, etc.

Would this ever actually pass? I doubt it, but that doesn't mean it stops being the correct measure. Humans are fairly capable of finding pleasure via other avenues. Most of what we do that is harmful, we've been socially introduced to. If we change what is fun, a society slowly alters its behavior. We don't feed people to lions, do we? Now, there's a boxing ring with gloves. It's awareness slowly kicking in.

The main problem is that increasing control over a society is potentially dangerous in and of itself. You have to do it in exactly the right way, or it will be abused, and a population will end up oppressed. So finding the right person to change society is unlikely.

A more realistic scenario is that society will establish individual measures to protect itself, little by little, as that awareness increases. The discovery of CTE is a good example of this. The NFL did all it could to stop it, but the evidence reached the public, eventually. It has caused changes, and I suspect more are coming.

Eventually, people will realize it is folly to have your kids slammed around in football. Something else will take its place. Granted, I don't expect this to be any time soon, but it will happen. It's the same with boxing. I love boxing, but if I had kids, I'd never let them become someone else's heavy bag. The constant flow of brain-damaged boxers is enough evidence for anyone who wants to protect their family. It is ignorance which causes people to make the mistake of doing it.

There already are changes when it comes to food. The measures which changed school lunches are evidence of this. Expect that to gain traction in the future. A society with 68% of its population either overweight or obese will eventually experience the price of it. And that's when changes come.

I'll recognize that, yes, it can sound like an extremely boring world, but perhaps it wouldn't be. You'll never know what'll be around in the future. For all we know, our descendants may be flying eco-friendly, remote-controlled drones like if it were Star Wars, or something like that. By that time, it may have become the new Nascar. Who knows? But humans can change for the better and enjoy it.

The question is how long it'll take them and how.

I still don't think boxing is going anywhere doe. We've been fighting since we were cavemen. I think its a part of us. And I think in the future with an advanced virtual reality system you could make the sport 100% safe & probably make the fights all the more gruesome via a virtual reality "death" so to speak.

I really hope this is a troll because as a Conor fan, Id be extremely disappointed and disgusted at how weak he is. If its true, what a weak beach. I doubt its true though, it just goes against his nature as a person, specially with the thirst of revenge.
