of course i would want to renegotiate, that the other party does and if they don't then i finish my contract or i pay the price/penalty just like you do with a mortgage.
Usually contract renegotiation work if both sides benefit...it isn't 1 side giving up more because you think you deserve it. I would understand if promotion companies didn't invest in their fighters, but they do and it costs them money so a multi fight contract is just as risky to the fighter as it is to the promoter. Would a promoter renegotiate their contract on fight 2 if they feel that the fighter is no longer worth what they agreed to pay them over a 5 fight deal? probably not, and if they tried they would get sued for it.
don't get me wrong promoters are in the wrong a lot of the time and i am not taking their side i just find that fighters can change their mind on a whim if someone whispers in their ear where they think they might be worth more than they get etc... you signed a contract... finish it up its not the end of the world if you make 1.5 million vs. 2.5 million

I see it differently. Promoters can drop a boxer any time they want (see rigo). Promoters only ride a boxer until he can no longer make money. I don't think it's wrong if a boxer wants to finish out his deal and then go out on his own.
Arum however makes getting the most lucrative fight a condition of signing an extension. If you work hard and fulfill all your contract requirements and then you want out, there isn't anything wrrong with that.

How many fighters have tried to leave Arum claiming the contract was up but for some reason TR finds something in that contract to keep them.
Arum is a snake but a very smart snake

Rigo is a damn good fighter but at the end of the day it isn't about how good you are... it is about how profitable you are. Rigo wasn't profitable, as a business owner i probably wouldn't want to sign him up if i am losing money and even though you can blame me for not keeping one of the best p4p fighters i ultimately have to think about the bottom line.

A lot of guys successfully left him... though i am sure it wasn't as easy as saying "I quit". At least he isn't as bad as Don King... or a few other promoters who I've heard horror stories about.

He comes from a famous family full of professional boxers and world class trainers who have all been around the park and back with contracts had access to top lawyers to read over the contract because of his family. They knew what was in the contract and at the time it was great for Mikey he was one of the highest and most overpaid young fighters/prospect in the game. His purses were bigger then most fighters his exposure on big undercards and prime cable dates was almost unmatched in boxing. He was not being paid peanuts far from it and for the first 5 years of his career he was actually grossly overpaid based on the revenue he brought in as a fighter. This is not about him being tricked into a bad contract because he was poor and couldn't read. lol
he saw the money shift that was going on with haymon fighters and what they were getting for fighting cab drivers and he wanted that money too as he was out the door trying to sign with haymon. Over 2 years ago rumors swirl he and Chavez are signing with Haymon all a sudden both have beef over money with Arum and this saga all started. Haymon made a power move to steal away Chavez and Mikey I think both ended up backfiring. Chavez is ruined and Mikey lost over 2 years of his prime.
