No, no, no! I said I dont trust their stats! You know exactly what I did say, and exactly what I didnt say!
I know that they state false height and reach stats!
They also state that he is bigger than Canelo, Ghost, Ortiz, Shane, Marcos, which is simply asinine! He aint close to being taller than any of them and no way is his arms longer!
Boxrec publish the stats the fighter has stated himself.
Fighters always say they are bigger than they are and say they have longer reaches.
You have to give it to Floyd. But if Ward gets in with Kovalev and beats him, that significantly changes the conversation.
If he beats Kovalev emphatically then I will definitely look at Ward differently, and I currently see him as unquestionably one of the top 4 fighters of the last decade. The Kovalev fight is so dangerous and so intriguing, I'm having a hard time thinking of a Floyd opponent who was at Kovalev's level of 'boogeyman'.
Probably the closest thing would be the Corrales fight, which sent Floyd's stock straight to the top and taught everyone that prime Floyd was almost superhuman.
Also it's really unfair to compare a light heavy/middleweight to a natural super featherweight - guys in the lower divisions are just more skilled.
Huh? Yeah, the smaller guys tend to fight at a higher pace and are often quicker but that's just a consequence of having less mass to haul around. I don't see how the skill level is intrinsically higher, just different. What works at 130 just doesn't necessarily work at 160 or 175 - a different skill set is required.
That said I still say Floyd is the more naturally gifted, though both are exceptional talents.
It depends. Floyd when he was younger and wasn't just defensive but offensive too, no, that version of Floyd was more skilled than Ward.
The older Floyd who just used defence and could pot shot his way to victory probably appears less skilled, even though his ring IQ was so high that he could win fights on almost that alone.
