I'd tend to agree but one thing that we've seen time and time again in this sport is promoters ability to exploit the fact that we all have a tendency to jettison facts in favour of a good story. A coherent narrative that 'feels' right often trumps logic and factual evidence. So Manny lost The Fight of the Century 'cause he was hindered by a debilitating rotary cuff injury. Given a level playing field he can attain redemption! . . . Who doesn't like the sports drama of a little man coming good against the odds?
It's all bull**** of course. Pacquiao was never beating a counter puncher of Floyd's calibre. I know that no two injuries are exactly the same but I've carried a rotary cuff injury for years and whilst I can get a shooting pain and weakness from picking up a kitchen utensil its never once effected my ability to throw punches. As you say the first fight was two past prime fighters cashing out. Casual fans didn't now what they were buying. Hardcore fans were desperate for the fight so suspended any critical thinking to be a part of the circus. It all left a very bad taste in the mouth in the end and was damaging to boxing.
I'd like to think that people wouldn't swallow it a second time but sadly that isn't consistant with what we see happen over and over again. Punters quickly forget and come back for more easy to follow story time. That's partly why the sport lurches from one sorry spectacle to another whilst decent fights go largely unheralded.
naw make that 100 percent..he repeats the exact same **** over and over again..dude has to be Scrugg or whatever dudes names was who use to always do this.............after ever sentence
Nah, Spoons been on this site for years. He just wasn't active (as crazy as that sounds) until the last year or so.
Spoon made a thread in 2010 about the only reason Mosley didn't knock out Floyd is because Floyd forced him to wear Everlast gloves.
This is completely false. But the thread went about 100 pages of sheer bull****. It must still be around in the archives.
However, the talk most permeating the debate is - who will the biggest star in boxing, Floyd Mayweather 48-0 (26) next fight? And the name that most often is mentioned from a competitive vantage point is WBA middleweight title holder Gennady Golovkin 33-0 (31). He, like Mayweather, really doesn't have any worthy challengers in front of him, at least who the thought of him fighting really excites boxing fans.
When you really think about it, who's left for Mayweather to fight? He spent his entire career telling everybody he was the best in the sport, and today that's pretty hard to refute. We get it, there's not a single fighter campaigning at welterweight or junior middleweight who can present him a serious challenge....not Miguel Cotto, despite Freddie Roach training him, or Canelo Alvarez. But let us not forget, the welterweight and junior middleweight divisions of today are not necessarily murderer's row. It's not like there's a line of title holders who are anything close to being elite fighters like Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Donald Curry circa 1983-85...
The fact is, Golovkin like Marvin Hagler, isn't even a big middleweight. And he's only 11-13 pounds heavier than Mayweather. If Floyd wants to seal his legacy and shut up his critics, fight Golovkin in a non-catch-weight bout. No, Golovkin is not a certified all-time great yet, but he may be viewed as one by the time he retires. Mayweather beating Golovkin in a non-catch-weight bout would be his crowning achievement.
There's only one fight left worth paying to see Mayweather partake in and that's against Golovkin at 160. It would be a monumental bout.
Fighting Manny is useless! All the critics want to see Mayweather vs. Golovkin @ 160. They won't even give Floyd credit if he beats Golovkin @ 154. It's GGG @ 160, or stay retired!
Wow, noncatchweight fight with Golovkin. This guy wants to see Floyd get murdered. The only way Floyd should fight Golovkin is at 154 and hope it drains him to the point of sudden fatigue. I would be interested in seeing Floyd vs Golovkin 6-7 years ago but Floyd is too old now. Golovkin would just walk through him, if he had any pop to speak of left, something to keep Golovkin honest maybe but I don't think he has it.

Everyone wants to see Floyd murdered! That's why fighting Manny is useless. If he wins again, it will be "so what, you didn't win @ middleweight like Hearns, SRL, and Duran." Those are the 3 that Floyd is compared to, not Manny Pacquiao.
No please no. I objected to the first fight and predicted a boring runnning, clinching fight and would just reward millions of dollars to an undeserving, ducking chicken. And you want to get ripped off again?? OMG! People are crazy. Then they start complaining why it ******.
