No, you have the whole 10 sec. to get on your feet and if you're up when the ref says 10, according to the rules, the fight is suppose to resume. The ref cheated. It's just that simple.

Martin was never going to beat Joshua, but he certainly could have lost in a far less humiliating fashion. I mean at least last like 4-5 rounds by gluing your glove to your left cheek

That is not how Martin fights.

His style has been the same in all his fights I watched, that is why I was so confident from the start.

No head protection, static head, arm punching from a low stance, poor footwork.

He has a decent output and a decent chin, against the weak opponents he had been in with this is fine.

that's what I'm talking about... no such rule in boxing that you MUST be on your feet by the count of 8. The rule is that you have to beat the count of 10.

That would only be relevant if he were not made aware of what was expected of him and he were 'caught out' unknowingly. He was aware and in any case, the bottom line is he wound up getting closer to 14 seconds and still hadn't stood straight.

People make a last grasp effort to make it up fractions before the 10 and aren't in a state to fight on. The ref can wave a fight off any time the fighters not got his faculties about him, knockdown or not.

There is for sure an argument that Martin didn't wanna continue. Maybe its correct, maybe its not. Only Martin knows for sure.

And if that is the case I can't hate on Martin too much. Guys get criticized for "quitting" before you take your full a$$ beating, but f#ck that noise. I contend boxing can be such a dangerous sport that if a guy feels he doesn't have any chance to win or at least enough of a chance to win vs the potential unnecessary damage he could take that it should be more accepted by fans to quit.

I think its obvious with hindsight (& some had foresight) Martin was unprepared for the situation he was in. Whats the point in taking more shots to the head when you are in over your head like he was? I say there isn't one.

I see no problem with a guy quitting but don't try to bait the fan's into thinking it was a bad count to save face. Accept your lost, keep your health, and enjoy your money.

I don't think anyone can say with 100% certainty & confidence Martin baited fans into thinking anything. Its for sure arguable he did cuz we've seen it before, but I don't know why one can't do that regardless. I mean of course guys can attempt to save face. Why couldn't a guy do that? And you got the right to suggest he tried to bait you into believing it. There are no rules with a planned mistiming of a count lol.

He started with the excuses as soon as the fight was over saying the ref rushed the count. But in reality he received a very slow and long count, the ref gave him every chance to get up.

I can't argue with this take more or less. I just know its not 100% that he purposely got up late.
