Roy was a great fighter but who did he really fight and beat??

these are the champions he beat

Jorge Vaca, Jorge Fernando Castro, Bernard Hopkins, Thulani Malinga, James Toney, Vinny Pazienza, Eric Lucas, Mike McCallum, Montell Griffin, Virgil Hill, Lou Del Valle, Otis Grant, Reggie Johnson, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Clinton Woods, John Ruiz, Antonio Tarver, Felix Trinidad, Jeff Lacy

Floyd wanted to be that kind of fighter too but people round here don't seem to remember that. He even got rid of his dad and chose his uncle to train him instead so that they can focus more on offense than defense.

However, after getting into trouble in numerous fights that he was easily dominating because he broke/fractured his hand on the opponent's face, he had to change his style and become more conservative.

Otherwise Floyd and Roy are exactly the same level of talent, the other just didn't have hand issues and also, surprisingly enough, because of that advantage in his prime, he didn't work on or develop his standing defense (his defense was only through movement and agility and he suffered when his speed and reflexes slowed) and ended paying for it later in his career. (By standing defense I mean slipping punches while standing right in front of the opponent in the pocket and blocking punches, Roy Jones seemed to have no idea how to block punches, which of course he never needed in his price but payed for it later on, guy fought mostly with his hands down from start to finish, whereas Floyd only starts doing that when he has his timing down or later in the fight when the opponent tires.)

Anyway, like I said, it terms of raw talent (speed, footwork, reflexes, timing, agility, instinct, reaction time, etc ect), yeah they are cut from the same cloth.

Ps. Watch these videos on youtube, one is called Roy Jones can't be touched, and the other is called Mayweather Defensive Genius. You'll see what I mean.
Good post and good point about Floyd's hand injuries.

If it wasn't for those brittle hands I am certain he would have scored more stoppages, been considered more exciting, and been considered even greater than he already is.

A lot of manny's big name wins came after they were unimpressive....Cotto, margarito, Mosley, Morales...all of them had bad beatings and showings then Pac fought them

its not always the name but who and when you beat them

Roy fought most his best opponents at or near their prime

Mike McCallum is a hall of famer....Virgil Hill is a hall of famer....Trinidad is too...Jones defeated the same or a similar amount of champions and titlist Pac did

put it this way....do you see any of our current guys who started at 160 and below ever defeating a legit top 5 heavyweight like Jones did...i doubt it

Jones was a grown man going up in weight...Manny turned pro as a kid and grew...when his conditions got better and he could eat and provide for his family he skipped 115 and 118 altogether

Also IMO Jones was harder to beat and had a high boxing IQ than Manny

Toney and Hopkins are God wins and he made it look easy. His overall resume, while good is'nt nearly as good as Floyd or Manny, I'm not arguing that. P4P is about matchups though. And in the scheme of things if you could match guys up and let them fight ten times, I think the list of guys that could beat Roy consistently can be counted on one hand.

Who cares, I see guys who complain about people hating on Floyd go on an make comments dissing Pacquiao in threads that are positive about Pacquiao like Zarakou thread saying favorite Pac moments, you have several guy who love Floyd claim to be unbiased whine about people hating on Floyd and go in there making fun of Manny and start hating on him.

This thread is about Floyd why bring up GGG and Pac fans, who gives a crap about them.

Can you just appreciate Floyd without taking shots at other people or trying to bring others down.

They should have gone 30 years back at least...

Then it would have been much more complicated. You throw in the likes of Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, and you'll have ranking issues.

Roy should be higher than Hopkins, IMO.
