Only for a CW will he fight DeGale. He doesn't want to seem like he can fight at 168 in case Ward loses to Kov. Who then might say I was better at 168...

WRONG. Kovalev risked NOTHING by making the deal. If the Ward fight doesnt happen, Kov moves on losing nothing. Had GGG taken the deal, he would have been giving up his WBC mando position, and the possible Canelo fight. On what planet does giving up a high 7-figure payday on the chance that he MIGHT fight Ward 18 months later make any sense?

Any reasonable person would wait to see how the Canelo situation played out before making some asinine deal for a Ward fight a year or more down the road........

He would not have given up his mando position, stop it. He's been pushing aside his mando position since 2014 and he hasn't lost it yet. Stop with the excuses. The WBC went out if their way, and bent their rules to get him in position to become a mando, they aren't going to take it away. Funny how everyone else can make fights happen but poor GGG can't. Love to see people pulling quotes from 2-3 years when that statement was necessary to bring options to the table but now it's pulled to justify their need to propel their new boogie man up.
