Kovalev is a boxer puncher. He takes the ko as it comes. Ward wont rush the biggest strongest fighter he has faced. Once they warm up, there will be some great exchanges outside and mid range but IMO Ward has the advantage on the pivot and inside.Indeed. Definately wont fight like he fought Barerra. Also I dont see Ward being able to spoil using his clinches with Kovalev. So we should see a lot of movement and bending below the waist. Kovalev also wont want to rush into anything, so am expecting a tactical fight at least early.
I believe he spoil inside for the simple fact that Kov hasnt fasced any one as good as Ward on the inside, jockeying for position, working out the clinch and pushing him back.
Also I havent seen a fighter where ward didnt impose himself inside for a time in a fight.
Both will be on their A game, cant wait.
Ward can change it up, kov pretty much does what he does.Comment

This thread shows you who the real fans are in this site.
This is the biggest fight in boxing right now and I'm not talking about money. I'm talking about who's the absolute best in the sport. Money and politics have become secondary for once.
Boxing hasn't seen this in a while.Comment

What poster said this? There's very few Kovalev critics here, so it would be easy to point out. And you said "they" so it's even easier since it's multiple. Not calling you a liar, just haven't seen this, point me in the right direction please.Comment

I wouldn't say there is no shot for either fighter, but it is very doubtful. The highest quality fights are much more difficult to make today and a guy like Ward, as talented as he is, just doesn't fight often enough. As you pointed out, the division's history is very deep.Comment

Kovalev is very good at cutting off the ring, there won't be a lot of getting away from him. Against Barrera who has slow feet, Ward was able to dictate the pace.
He has the reach advantage, and obviously there is more power in his jab. Kovalev is also quite good at moving back out of range quickly, he has fast feet.
Then there's the size advantage, which could completely negate Ward's inside game (if the referee doesn't). It's hard to see Kovalev getting bullied on the inside, not impossible, but seems unlikely.
Ward has handspeed, it's not drastic but could be important, particularly in the first half of the fight. He is the harder to hit of the two as well but far from impossible to tag him.
I favour Kovalev, but you just never know in this sport.
Go for broke, this isn't someone who will cower if he's getting beaten to the punch or outboxed on the outside, he will take it to Ward.
When Boone caught him in the second fight with a big punch, Kovalev threw caution to the wind and went to war. That was end of Boone.Last edited by Weebler I; 04-05-2016, 11:01 PM.Comment
