I can only imagine the reaction on here if Ward refused to fight Kovalev unless it was a CW of 172.......
What's wrong with the champs from 2 weights meeting in the middle? 172 for ward vs kovalev would have been fine...same with 164 for ward vs ggg.

No it wouldn't have been nice.
Especially if Ward was running his mouth about how he could beat any LHW and then had the nerve to agree to fight lets say, Barrera and Pascal at the full LHW limit but then refused to fight Kovalev unless it was at a CW.

That is BS. How are people defending this? Seriously?

You have a lot of nerve calling out fans of other fighters when you were the biggest **** rider of them all when it came to Floyd...now you hopped right on Wards nuts...so stop calling out other people on the forum when your wack ass did the same stuff.

If he's moving up in weight, it's a dead issue. I was talking about before ward said he was moving to 175. I would have had no problem with him and kovalev meeting in the middle. To me that's what a catchweight is for...to make a big fight with each guy giving a little ground.

              They are the same.

Both guys want a CW to have an advantage over an opponent they feel is a huge threat.

You want to throw in the belt like it means something, go ahead then. If the belt REALLY meant something, GGG would have already fought for it instead of accepting step aside money and this ****** voluntary defense.

You want to nit-pick and find the little nuances of were there may be little differences,go ahead.

That might be true. It's true for me at least.

I'm a boxing fan. I never liked Ward's style, but now I'm a fan, post-Barrera. I prefer total skills and attitude over just simple brawls and quick KOs. I'm a student of boxing. I love boxing. I love KOs too, so don't get me wrong there. Wish Ward could have finished Barrera off in a spectacular way after the first KD.

Although he was rusty against Barrera, Ward displayed plenty of good skills. I was actually thinking Barrera had a GREAT chance at a KO (given Ward's inactive history).

Hope he fights the best next, then Kovalev in November.

                  Stay active Andre!

GGG said in this regard - since the title on the line, we should fight at 160 limit. If Canelo wants a business fight, then you drop the belt and we can have business discussions (read: a catch weight) after that.

If that doesn't make sense for you, I don't know what does.

And he was supposed to say what exactly? That Ward shuts his guy out? Every coach on earth says their guys gonna win before the fight. Not defending Abel in general - guy flaps his lips waaaay too much - but can't really fault him for bigging up his guy before the bout.
