Mike McCallum retired when he was 41 years old.
Golovkin is only 33 years old right now.
Give him time. He's stepped up in division slowly over the past 2-4 years. Nobody can argue this. Just look, even if you don't appreciate the names, Murray and Lemieux are/were top 10 middleweights. Wade is a mandatory, how many people here are going to keep bringing this up? Whether he'll get BJS or Canelo to fight him this coming year, we'll see. I think both will pass on fighting him next, and he ends up fighting Andy Lee. If BJS and Canelo duck again, I think the big UK fight will end up being vs Eubank Jr.
It's a big question on who he'll end up fighting, but there's still a lot of names. These next two years will be good for him in terms of compeition.
Canelo, Saunders, Eubank Jr., Jacobs, Andy Lee--- I think he'll have at least 3 of the names on this list in two years time. Then, maybe he'll move up and fight at 168 if he doesn't look like he's declining much. Or, maybe he would have already fought someone at 168. I think AA would be an easy win for him, although I wonder if AA will even get by Ramirez.
The middleweight division is fine. Arif Magomedov, Ryota Murata, and Ievgen Khytrov are the three I'm looking at for upcoming prospects right now. They might not fight Golovkin, as he'll probably be old/retired (I hope, in the case that he's a shot fighter) when they start challenging the top (assuming they make it).
