Jean Pascal is a strong guy man. Kovalev completely bullied him.Kovalev can throw fast but he's not a quick thinker. That will be very apparent when Ward starts to counter him. Notice how Kovalev throws and resets immediately? Andre is constantly thinking, measuring, responding. Kovalev's not been challenged by anyone dangerous and when he gets in deep with Ward, he's going to get frustrated.Comment

Ward's defence is very good but not amazing. Kovalev don't need to land clean to put him in serious trouble.
Good performance by Ward but I still favour Kovalev.Comment

Well I disagree, I think he's a quick thinker and that he adapts well. Having said that, Ward will obviously be his most difficult opponent and it's a fight we need to see.Hopkins got by from impending dirty, spoiling fights. Remember how Dawson (the guy Ward murdered) handled Bernard? Why shouldn't Kovalev?
Regarding ring IQ, I made no comment on that. I think his overall ring IQ is strong and he manages distance, energy, evaluating opponent, etc beautifully. What I said was that he's not a quick thinker, in reference to counterpunching and flash responses in general. Not at Ward's level at least, but he compensates by getting off first and getting out of danger. When they start to trade and Ward does his jab, slip, right, gone, how does Kovalev deal with it? I see Sergey's best chance in getting off first and being ready to hop out of danger. His bread and butter. He does not want to trade fire with Ward as that usually results in miss, get tagged, get clinched, eat a body shot, eat a punch as Ward exits. Andre has that game down to a science.Comment

Brush I don't remember you being a troll, that's funny
Barrera is the slowest light heavyweight I've ever seen. He managed to land some and carry Ward all 12 rounds. This is going to be an issue, if you don't have something Kovalev should respect you're in for a night.
I picture Ward-Kovalev being in Ward's hands the first few rounds, but as soon as Kovalev lands something (which he will, he's not slow as molasses like Barrera) Ward will clinch and run. I favor Kovalev 60/40 at this point, but I won't be surprised if Ward wins UD.
Kovalev is such a perfect fighter. Power, fair speed, ring IQ, good footwork, and he hits from all angles. One of Kovalev's better punches is a straight right down, which he nailed Pascal plenty of times. Difference between Pascal and Ward here is Ward's chin isn't as sturdy. I'm sure Ward is aware that his bending around the waist is a problem.
I remember how well Kovalev handled Hopkins. Didn't ever get close on the inside, kept him at bay. That's how I would imagine Ward-Kovalev, except a bit more competitive lol
Ward will get caught with something, question is if he can hold his own after... November baby!Comment
