I would agree 100%. The example you provided is very apt, because we have a whole host of young fighters (under 30) who are beating good opposition but not exactly dominating them. Top fighters from previous eras would dominate numerous opponents at the world level, e.g. Oscar, Pacquiao, Tito etc.

I feel a lot of this comes down to younger fighters having poor stamina. I'm not sure why but guys like Canelo, Groves, DeGale and many more, don't seem to be able to stretch their quality across 12 rounds of boxing. Shouldn't stamina improve with improved sports facilities and science?

I think the closest we have to a great fighter right now is Bradley (obviously not counting Pacman and Wladimir). Khan may reach that status with his next fight and guys like Fury, Garcia, Canelo, Frampton et al may also have a say but they are still in the process of building their resumes.

Boxing fans are dumb as f#ck. If Ali was around today he'd be fighting twice a year & people would be talking about him in a similar way they did Mayweather & Fury. Hagler would be in a similar position as GGG.

The problem with this era isn't the boxers. Throw 4 titles, powerful networks & powerful promoters & limited viewing options/dates for big money name guy fights & you get what we got now in any era. The structure of the sport is the #1 thing not creating battle tested names. Names used to be created by fighting the best guys back in the day. Today a promoter decides who he's gonna try to make a name & then moves him along in a way to get him to that point with his 0 intact. There is no trial by fire in boxing anymore & that ultimately hurts the sport & the fighters oddly enough.

Look, that's certainly an issue but can you really deny Canelo, Groves, DeGale etc have below par stamina? Or that when numerous "top guy" of this generation have stepped up, they have squeaked by with wins rather than dominating opponents. That's a reality.

Yes, it may be a result of a weak and carefully handled upbringing but that's not to say Oscar, Floyd, Tyson etc didn't have a run of bums. They did but when they stepped up, they STEPPED UP. We're not seeing that anymore.

Yes, it may be a result of a weak and carefully handled upbringing but that's not to say Oscar, Floyd, Tyson etc didn't have a run of bums. They did but when they stepped up, they STEPPED UP. We're not seeing that anymore.

Of course even the Tyson's & then the Oscar's & then the Floyd's got more stepped up then the Canelo's & Thurman's of today. The structure of boxing didn't happen overnight. Its been happening, its been getting worse. And the next era will be considered even lesser than this Canelo & Thurman era if this trajectory continues. And the reality is if boxing worked like it used to work we may not even be talking about Canelo & Thurman like they get talked about. If boxing worked like it used to work Canelo & Thurman might be middle of the road contenders instead of top guys in their division or they mighta been battle tested & improved & become greater because of it. Iron sharpens iron & there is less & less iron sharpening happening in boxing in each successive era with how boxing works.

This alternate reality **** gets weird quick, but for anyone to act like boxers have just magically changed in this era or recent eras is silly cuz they are ignoring how little power boxers have & how much boxing has changed outside of boxers control or choice .

It's an era where it's no longer a motivation to beat the best. They had to demand truckloads of money before saying yes to such fights.

Oh well, I could care less. I've found a way to enjoy mismatched fights. My underdog doesn't have to win. He only had to inflict damage and punishment. The upset is a huge bonus.
