Those are the primary reasons, according to the undefeated former super middleweight champion, that he has moved up from 168 pounds to 175. If Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) beats Cuban-born Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) in his first legitimate light heavyweight fight Saturday night at Oakland's Oracle Arena (HBO), he is contractually committed to facing unbeaten IBF/WBA/WBO 175-pound champion Sergey Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KOs) later this year.

Paul Smith, now prospect Barerra. Wow, incredibly daring! And it only took 5 years.

If he wants a big money fight with Kovalev it is kind of a necessity to fight a real LHW.

Props to Andre - 175 is a talent-rich division right now, but it'd be naive to assume that a quest for greatness was his only reason to move up. Simple fact is to get the big fights and the HBO contract he had no other real option.

Paul Schmidt (Ward's tuneup) > Pepe Le Pew (Golovkin's unification)

Neither Kovalev or GGG have an impressive resume but you guys seem to love them but Andre? Nope. I could understand if he had an obnoxious and arrogant attitude like Floyd or Broner but the guy is nothing but a class act and yet there is no end to the hate toward this guy.

I think it's rather obvious why you guys REALLY hate AW and it has nothing to do with him as a fighter. It's 2016 guys, such sentiments should not exist anymore.

It's coz he pulled up GGG's dress, and the world saw his granny knickers

so basically what you're saying is, facts dont matter as long as they dont support your agenda

all that matters is Andre turned pro below 168 and fought mostly at middleweight well below 168 before the super 6....look it up....he was never a full fledge light heavyweight

He was just so good in the amatuers that he could move up. Many great or good amatuers fought over their weight classes

Timmeh and Porter fought at middleweight as amatuers and are welterweights as pros....Ward doesnt baloon up between fights like timmeh and Porter is a gym rat, keeps his weight low

Since they both turned pro..... you tell me how many world-class fighters Golovkin has fought in the last 10 years, and I will tell you how many world-class fighters Ward has fought in the last 12 years.

Here are the FACTS: Ward has actually fought and *beat* top guys. Bumlovkin, OTOH, doesn't have a single name on his resume. Not one. So don't come in here talking all that jazz about who the Triple Duck could have, would have or should have fought. The FACT is that Bumlovkin has fought NOBODY. Just TOMATO CAN after TOMATO CAN. Hi

And I find it quite curious that HBO's policy toward and promotion of the Triple Duck is the polar opposite to that of Andre Ward given Ward's caliber and history. Ward is CLEALY superior to Bumlovkin in every aspect.

It's not that hard to figure really. Golovkin knocks people out and Ward decisions people with what most casual fans would consider a boring style. You see HBO isn't worried about real fans of boxing tuning in, they know we will. They want the casual fans or even non fans who just happen upon it to tune in and stay tuned in. Knock outs do that, tactical decisions do not.

                  You're welcome.

they fought in the same olympics

fighter A has a better resume but gets criticized for being inactive because of well documented legal issues and injuries...former lineal champion, ring, wba, wbc champion at 168

fighter B has more fights, is older, has a high ko %...top 3-4 pound for pound.....what did he do, who did he beat....no lineal titles...earned the ibf in the ring and the wba was gift wrapped

we all know WARD has a resume that makes GGGs look like a decent contender not a monster
