Comments Thread For: Andre Ward: I'm Daring To Be Great By Moving Up To 175

By Keith Idec - Andre Ward wants to make history and prove his greatness.

Those are the primary reasons, according to the undefeated former super middleweight champion, that he has moved up from 168 pounds to 175. If Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) beats Cuban-born Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) in his first legitimate light heavyweight fight Saturday night at Oakland's Oracle Arena (HBO), he is contractually committed to facing unbeaten IBF/WBA/WBO 175-pound champion Sergey Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KOs) later this year.

HBO kind of forced you. We've seen what you've done since the Super 6 and the fights you wanted to take. Not quite the same thing.

How do you dare to be great by fighting in a division in which you already won gold?

Hate to break it to you ward, but hbo had no interest in broadcasting your fights, unless you were actually fighting against live bodies. This isn't a move to achieve greatness, you were simply backed into a corner. Either you kept fighting Paul smiths on bet,or you moved up and fought on hbo.

Ward is one cheesy ass mofo, first he's talking about "adversity" now it's all "daring to be great" stfu and fight someone worth a damn already.

He has spent the last 3 years fighting a fringe contender, a past it domestic contender and now a nobody. Yeah, he really is "proving his greatness".

I'm not buying the whole "it's not about money and I'm doing it to be great" thing or that it was entirely his choice, as he was clearly struggling to make 168 and under heavy pressure to move up from the fans and TV networks.

That said, it's a good move for everybody involved. I'm actually looking forward to seeing him fight at 175 if he doesn't start acting like a diva again.

I didn't have to come up to this weight class. I didn't have to take on these kind of challenges.
Why do fighters says shit like this? It makes them sound like self-righteous twats who don't want to fight for glory. It also makes them sound legit scared of a bit of competition outside their comfort zone.

(Yes, I'm looking at you, Alvarez and Rigondeaux.)
