For years I thought Gamboa was the Cuban fighter most likely to achieve stardom -- the raw talent, the exciting style. He really did throw away a very promising career. It all happened so fast, too. One monent he was on the verge of stardom with a developing fight versus Rios, the next Yuri was in the wilderness.

And gamboa's career is now officially irrelevant.
Sad because this guy was the most exciting of the Cuban guys that came to the US.

And we all knew he would have demolished Rios. It would have been a huge victory at the time and probably would have set up an outside shot at Pacquiao.
Oh what could have been. ...

Mayweather and TMT scumbags were to blame for this

they lured Gamboa out of his TR contract and the Rios fight negotiations, offering him a contract and $$$$, they tried to steal Gamboa from TR, but they couldn't because Arum sued the cuban's ass and benched him for an entire year, then he got stuck with .50 and all went downhill from there.

Gamboa's wasted career..chalk it up to Mayweather's long list of bad things he's done to boxing

The Rios that showed up versus Abril would've been made to look silly. And, yes, it would've been a possible star-making victory for Gamboa. Lots of "would'ves, could'ves, should'ves." Such is life....

Lol he could've gone with TR and fought Loma/Walters/Verdajo, GBP for Linares/ or Haymon for like 10-15 guys from the 126/130 division.
