The show must go on.

Idk all the details with money offered or not offered or how much it was or wasn't & maybe my opinion would change with that info being known, but from the story I read + an assumption De La Rosa was offered fair market value by Lemieux's people for an overage in a non-title fight I side with Lemieux in a lesser of two evils situation.
I take the opposite stance. It's good that De La Rosa didn't agree to go through with the fight...that way the resulting drama, media attention, and embarrassment that Golden Boy suffered will make it less likely that this happens again.

If they can make the problem go away just by throwing money at it then there is no incentive to require more professionalism from everybody involved.

For sure they need a better protocol setup to deal with guys coming in over, which is just gonna be something that happens from time to time like it or not.

I think it should be added to contracts initially. If a guy is xlbs over he gives y% of his purse to the other guy, if he's xlbs+1 over the fight is off. The fighters can agree on the value of the x's & y's. That would make it a much easier transition for the promoter to deal with & less a dramatic situation like this has apparently become.

This was a whatever fight so I suspect it'll have virtually no impact on anything, but this is for sure a problem boxing has to contend with that it hasn't ******lined a solution for very well.

50% of Lemieux"s purse would've been a fair offer to keep the fight on

Does De La Rosa still get his contracted purse in this case?

Good on De La Rosa. Someone needed to make a stand on this point.

What are they even evaluating? All they can really day is tell him he came in overweight and needs to drop some pounds or move up.

This isn't rocket science. Not like he was expecting to make the weight and then was shocked to see that he was 2.6lbs over the catchweight.

Yeah except in this case apparently de la rosa was suspended for not fighting:

That's according to The Raging Babe. Not sure if its true or not, if so I can't recall of something like that ever happening before.

Apparently Lemieux was going to be giving up 30-40% of his purse. Personally I think la rosa should have taken it, was brought in to lose anyways but tbh I don't care, wasn't a good fight by any means, just a meaningless tune up for Lemieux.

Oh I don't know, maybe it's because he usually wins, is always in exciting fights, has insane power... you know, just the usual stuff that makes fans become fans of a fighter. Not rocket science.

“We never thought this would happen for two pounds,” said Marc Ramsay, Lemieux’s trainer told the Montreal Gazette. “We all thought it was going to be okay. We’d pay the 20 per cent and it would be enough."

They fully expected that cheating on the scales would be fine and they could just buy the opponent into fighting on while being cheated.

Any fighter who misses weight should see the same outcome: miss weight, fight cancelled.
They said it was a problem, and if you do some checking you'd see that it almost always happens that paying the opponent some money makes the fight go on as planned. This was just one of the rare exceptions. They NEVER said they thought they could cheat. And they're proving it by having the guy analyzed to see if his body can or can't make MW any more. IOW they're doing the exact right thing. I'm a fan but I'm not happy it was cancelled, and he will need to get it together so this never happens again, be it at MW or SMW. Yes, what Lemieux did was unprofessional, but at the same time De La Rosa should've just taken the money and went ahead with the fight. Now, he'll probably end up with less fights for refusing this fight. Plus no payday yesterday. And supposedly suspended 6 months. Not a smart move either.

You're an idiot. I'll be 63 this year, and have voted dem most of the time, worked my azzoff since I was a teen, paid my way and would never want it any other way, and will keep working til I croak off. If you're so worried about your money disappearing, make some noise about corporate welfare. Every job must be filled by someone, and every worker deserves a living wage. If biz doesn't pay it, we taxpayers have to make up the difference. Walmart (and other corporations) encourage their employees to apply for food stamps etc. I'd rather biz pays their employees a living wage than me having to subsidize corporate welfare b.s. Get mad about that, not the 3-4% of individuals who cheat welfare. Corporate welfare is the big bucks we middle class schmucks pay out.
