Well, it was never destined for him to be "liked" from the getgo. Even with the sole reason of him fighting is for his sick daughter.

But I'm sure his stock will raise just enough after he disposes of Povetkin.

I think for Wilder to be a star he has to beat Fury/ Klitchko winner. Even though he's undefeated with the highest ko ratio and WBC title he is still considered the paper champion.

        Don't compare Golovkin to Wilder.

If there were fighters in the MW division equivalent to Povetkin, Fury, AJ, Parker, Ortiz and Martin, GGG would have fought his mandatory immediately and Loeffler would have sent offers to all the others, rather than lining up voluntaries against journeymen not even ranked in the top 30.

People knows he's an overhyped bumbeater

he got an underserved title shot without fighting anyone in the top 30

his best win is Stiverne, an overrated paper champ who was sick with rhabdomyolisis come fight night. Wilder still couldn't stop him

and what has he done after becoming champion?

getting rocked by part time school teacher Molina
              disfigured by unknown nobody Duhaupas
outboxed by glass jawed midget Szpilka

the guy is defending his belt against handpicked bums and still struggling ffs

also. never forget the Malik Scott dive.

Those other guys were more talented and way better developed. Wilder's balance is terrible and he's been wobbled by medium punchers. In fact, supposedly he got knocked out in one fight and the referee waited around for him to get up.

When you looked at a young Tyson, especially, the guy fought lots of tomato cans. Sure. But he looked balanced, blew through them and was just flawless. Even when fighting weak opposition, a star is supposed to look like a star and have little trouble with lesser fighters. That has not been the case with Wilder who has struggled with every title defense against three voluntaries who were not very good. Fury or Wladimir would have crushed those guys with ease. Wilder got them, but he struggled. That's the difference. A young heavyweight should be blowing them out of the water.

The Povetkin fight will probably make him or break him.

Maybe not yet but there are a lot of fights he can make that'll put him on the public's map.

It's boxing. The only names that resonated in the past 15 years are De La Hoya, Mayweather, and Pacquiao.
