oh and that's one thing I don't like about PBC incidentally is they don't mention orgs and belts....but apart from that i Love PBC....also how shameful would it be if he vacated the belt because of not wanting to defend it
Why does Canelo hold onto the MW belt?

I'm not talking about a run of the mill belt holder. I'm talking Canelo. If he dropped the belt and GGG had it Canelo would still be the A-side. No?Comment

simply dropping the WBC 160 belt would be seen as an open and blatant diss of the WBC, boxing's most respected organization and one also based in Mexico. It seems like the belt brings him more problems than what it's worth. He claims he's not a true MW and he even said before the Cotto fight he didn't care if the fight was for the belt or not. Why not just drop it? It'll save him money and questions about GGG which you can tell is starting to annoy him. The questions about being a MW but fighting at 155 is also starting to annoy him. The MW belt doesn't help sell the Khan fight. The numbers would be the same with or without the belt. He put 30k ppl in a baseball stadium and 2 mil views without a belt. He's already established so how does it help him by holding onto the belt?
Canelo and his camp will leave such a decision to the WBC to decide, as a means to help everyone save face, if that. The WBC holding off on insisting anything (with Golovkin happy to take step-aside money to hold off the WBC's decision) leaves things in this pattern.Comment

I am a huge Canelo fan but he should either defend the title against GGG at the proper 160 pound limit in his very next fight or give up the belt. Cotto was wrong to duck GGG and make Geale fight him for his title at a catchweight of 157. Cotto and Khan are smaller than Canelo so they were happy with the 155 pound weight limit. GGG has every right to fight Canelo for the WBC middleweight title at the full 160 pounds and if Canelo won't do this or drop the belt he is just as wrong as Cotto was.Comment

K2/GGG happily agreed to the $850k step aside terms. If they refused step aside money and enforced it and took it to court if WBC acted up, they could have had the WBC title as we speak.I am a huge Canelo fan but he should either defend the title against GGG at the proper 160 pound limit in his very next fight or give up the belt. This is what I think went down:
Cotto vs Canelo winner had to fight Golovkin, according to the WBC. The only way out is with direct agreement/permission with K2. Okay, so Canelo beats Cotto, now he has to defend the title against Golovkin. WBC maintains that Canelo has to fight GGG, and the only way out of this is by talking to K2 and coming up with an agreement. they maintained this before and after the fight.
So DLH feels that Canelo is not quite ready for GGG, and a loss would be disastrous for his cash cow coming off such a career defining win, he wants to capitalize on the fame before putting him in a fight he may lose. So DLH calls up Loeffler, they meet up and have negotiations according to both of them. The end result was Canelo was allowed to fight another guy before GGG. Most likely DLHaskedK2 to allow this to happen, and they said yes with stipulations, they need to negotiate for an actual fight afterwards.
Hence, Loeffler not saying a damn word, and only Abel/GGG talking. The bosses apparently negotiated something, because Loeffler has no harsh words for GBP, and DLH is going on record saying the fight will happen.
So yeah, I think that's what went down.Comment

Canelo's A-side, but is he popular? Perhaps in America but apart from boxing fans no one knew who he was in the UK till the announcement of the Khan fight. He doesn't have that Mayweather, Pacquiao appeal, even Khan is known internationally to some extent...and I'm not trying to be insulting, he's very generic and bland and the belt keeps him a headline, but without it he'd be completely forgettable.Comment

Do you realize how much the WBC wants a Mexican to have that belt? They practically forced it on Chavez Jr, they'd probably let Canelo fight at 155 against his mandatories and not strip him if he refused.Comment
