Good summary. He seemed too fast for Diaz initially and was timing him well. But I guess the question is what happens if your opponent doesn't buckle under your best shots. Conor didn't seem to have any back-up plan, he didn't show an ability to move well on the back foot nor did his kicks come into the equation. He ended up in a slugging match with a bigger man which was a tactical disaster.

In terms of the weight leap, I think people massively underestimate the effect. GSP gives a good breakdown on the impact it has on efficiency of movement here. He talks about how reaction times and reset times change when you put on weigh and it takes time to adjust to it. Starts at 2.21.




Roach also says here before the fight that GSP said McGregor moving up so quickly is a bad idea.

Dr Rumack, before the fight, I noticed that Diaz does not get knocked out or submitted. You have to beat him by decision.

You have to go the distance with that motherfcuker.

1) comparing Diaz to Jo Jo Dan is just ignorant, I hope you know more about boxing than you do about MMA

Diaz: I had no camp, so the plan was to start slow and conserve energy so that I will be effective in the 4th/5th round.

McGregor: Diaz was more efficient with his energy than I was.

But he didn't even defend anything on the ground, yes I know his skills are basic there, but it seemed that as soon as he went for the takedown he was looking for a way out. Basically he couldn't take Nate's slaps so he quit.

McGregor was trying to escape it. It's not like he quit as soon as he went to the ground. He was trying to find a way out but he just couldn't get out of Diaz's lock. Even when Nate starting ground-pounding, Conor turned over to escape it but he ended getting choked and that was it.
