I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw what shit Hunter was talking. I wonder if he believes that stuff he says about Khan himself. How big a puncher was Willie Limond? Or Julio Diaz?

Hunter reminds me of Teddy Atlas and Naazim Richardson. Entertaining to listen to, because they talk like boxing trainers do in movies, but really all you get is a never ending stream of excuses for their own shortcomings as trainers. The blame is always somewhere else.

One way you measure how much help a trainer can give is through his knowledge and understanding... Boxing, especially the old way, often the way martial arts is taught...also the old way involved being there, being in the training environment, soaking up knowledge. Thats why youngsters do well in combatives...even when they are not training they are soaking it up. Did you know that Samuria youth would never touch a sword until well around the age of 12 years old...all that other time was spent being around the elders, learning how to sit, stand, control the body with training weapons, etc. So what does this have to do with Virgil right?

Well, he has a gym that is well known where many fighters benefit from his understanding. Another thing about him is something you see with Roger Mayweather also... that is a thorough understanding of how different regions do things. The way a hook is taught in Philly, the Michigan shoulder roll, where a jab is forsook for the purposed of setting the counter up, etc. Knowing this means a trainer can identify a fighters strong and weak points.

Virgil helps a lot of local guys comig up the ladder. Oakland is a real boxing town actually, quite the hard scrabble place. When you hear a trainer who does not speak of themselves so much...who was brought up old school, and has experience in a place where there is a boxing legacy, you can bet that trainer is knolwedgable. Human nature being what it is you can bet that trainer shares that knowledge with fighters making the rounds.

With that said, while I am a big fan of Ward I don't think that Hunter'e success is only bringing up Ward. Any guy who came up apprentacing in the gym, from the older guys, has something to share. But what they share cannot always be categorized by succesful fighters, it has to do with more than that. By contrast, when you hear a guy like Ruban Guerero, or angel, these guys never seem to have much to contribute on a technical level. They are cheerleaders for their sons imo and little else. Thats my opinion.

They called the gym to find out if Angulo was putting in work and when they found out he wasn't they scheduled a fight with him with a short camp. Again, he's not blaming Angulo for losing but for the poor showing and not listening to him beforehand. Virgil knows how the game is played and that's evidenced by them doing exactly what he told Angulo they would do.
I listened to that interview and many more by Hunter and I don't, for the life of me, know how anyone could come to any other conclusion than you did. Its like when people are honest, they are throwing someone under the proverbial bus. Thats part of the problem with this generation. Old school says when your told you suck and even to get lost...its time to show your work ethic, with some of these kids you damage their ego if your just honest with them.

Hunter, much like Roger Mayweather...I know how Roger sounds but Roger knows his **** actually...and both men don't sugar coat ****. You do something ****** learn from it!

I remember the first time I got my nose busted while doing karate...I looked up like it was going to fall off my face. Nobody kissed my boo boo! it was like, "how you like the way you taste? wanna not taste your blood? put your GDamn hands up!" Sheesh.

Khan fans should hate this guy....under this guy, Algieri and Juio Diaz got to Khan's chin easily while trying to stink it out....imagine what the ginger minge will do to him.

But he also got the best Khan we've ever seen vs Alexander. I think its more to do with Khan and not Hunter, his lack of discipline against fighters that don't worry him is his undoing. Garcia, Peterson, Diaz, ALgieri are all fighters Khan didn't care about and thought he'd walk through and as a result turned out to be dodgy performances.

The best Khan is the one who beat up Kotelnik(who is much better than Alexander...), Malignaggi, Judah, survived and went to war with Maidana and Peterson...He struggled with guys who were very dangerous for him(considering his chin and defense), not against guys who weren't a threat athletically at all, and who Khan beat thanks to them not having power.

I don't completely buy Hunter's bit about Garcia looking down to see where Khan's feet were, before throwing the left hook. They were in a heated toe-to-toe exchange. Why would Garcia need to look at Khan's feet to know where he was? He was right in front of him! I believe he put his head down to avoid Amir's left hook. Check 11:29 of the video. Danny routinely ducks his head like that to avoid a punch before throwing his left hook.

I'm just seeing more and more holes in Hunter's explanations. He said Khan shouldn't have been in with Prescott, because he was too green with only 11 fights. Amir had 18 fights under his belt at the time. I get that Hunter is trying to play up his fighter, while discounting Canelo's ability, but it's not working. Alvarez should destroy Khan.
