Hbo has changed there business plan as far as boxing.

Instead of a lot of fights, (which they can't do anymore, because Haymon has drove the price too high) HBO will now focus on a handful of fighters, and thats it.

They don't need a bigger budget for what there focused on doing right now.

I mean I doubt Crawford vs Postol is being built up as a big fight. I think that's more of an Arum thing.

In fact I don't think HBO is dragging out any of these fights. Think about it.

Canelo/GGG & Ward/Kovalev would both be end of 2016 anyway, because Canelo didn't want to fight Golovkin next and chose to fight Khan on PPV, and GGG was left to fight his mandatory in Wade since Saunders also declined. Likewise with Ward-Kovalev but Ward wants a couple tune-ups first. I'm positive HBO would have made these fight ASAP if Canelo/Ward would have actually agreed to fight next.
We'll see. My gut reaction is that Ward/Kovalev stalls because the PPV demand isn't there and it's too expensive for WCB. I hope I'm wrong of course.

The NFL is a proven ratings draw.

So is the Big Ten, which is one of the next big tv rights bidding wars.

The PBC is not a proven ratings draw...so at a time when networks are cutting costs and being more cuastious about what they spend their money on...it's not clear that PBC will get a huge tv rights deal.

If they want maintain themselves as the "leader" in boxing, it obviously won't work.

It's working, the only potential star Haymon has is Wilder.

Showtimes ratings have been plummeting while HBO's have gone up.

PBC is running low on funds, they can't keep this up much longer.

People love to hate on both Mayweather and Pacquiao, BUT these 2 guys took the ball and ran with it! They kept boxing mainstream and appealing. Constant multiple PPV buys, and keeping the hype alive. Also, kept winning big matches.

Canelo, Broner, GGG , etc whoever is on that borderline PPV star needs a big sell.

Mayweather had his whole, ****y attitude and money character and also kept winning.
Pacquiao had being the first Asian American/FILIPINO to be a dominant athlete in a latino/black/white dominated sport. The rag to riches star. The Jackie Robinson for the Filipinos.

Will see who can be the next, mega superstar, but it will be a while...

HBO's next main event is ortiz vs thompson. That's all we need to know about hbo and where they are headed.

                  No where.

You would think a lesser budget would mean hbo would save up for big fights. But that's not the case.

Hbo used to be the home of great fights

                  Mosley vs margarito
                  Hopkins vs calzaghe
                  Williams vs martinez
                  Wright vs taylor
                  Marquez vs diaz
                  Cotto vs Clottey

All big fights that were on regular hbo

                  Now we get

                  Ortiz vs thompson
                  Vargas vs salido
                  Crawford vs lundy
                  Golovkin vs wade

Pbc is definitely doing what they set out to do, and that's knock hbo off the top of the mountain.

pbc has a ways to go as well, but the difference is pbc is on free tv. The fans will be way more patient with a free product as opposed to one they have to pay for.

I have always had hbo because of boxing. But this is the first time I have ever contemplated getting rid of it.

Hbo needs Better opponents, no doubt. but they have more stars by far.

But Showtime just spent a bunch on Jacobs/Quillin, did a all access for it, and it couldn't even do espn numbers.

PBC is not growing or building anything special, and showtimes numbers prove it to be a failure.

Hbo remaining consistent, and will be on there 3rd ppv since Floyd/Pac.

Haymon and Showtime have 0 ppv fights since Floyd left.
