See Puerto Rico is opening doors for Latinos and boxers, Joe Mesi, Jimenez (raised there), De La Chicken, Edison Miranda, Jermain Taylor.
I dont know if you are implying Mesi is Puerto Rican or just a boxer that boxed in Peurto Rico, but he is an Italian.

aby Joe Mesi has a goal to be the Heavyweight Champion of the World, following in the footsteps of his idol, Rocky Marciano. Marciano has the boxing record of most career wins (50) without a loss and Joe Mesi is more than half way there.
With a perfect record of 28-0, 89% of Joe Mesi's wins have been by knockout. He has knocked out Bert Cooper and KO'd David Izon. Baby Joe never steps backward and stays focused on his goal and the hard work it takes to achieve that goal.
The Italian-American heavyweight from a suburb of Buffalo, New York walloped his opponents in 2003. Jason Curry hit the deck three times before the referee stopped the fight in the second round. In June, he rocked Robert Davis' world with a left-right-left combination, and after a right hook, followed later by a left to the chin, the fight was stopped in the first round.
"Baby Joe", as his family first called him, first hit the boxing scene as New York State 1994-1996 Super Heavyweight Golden Gloves Champion. Joe also captured the Gold Medal in the 1993 Empire State Games. He rounded out his amateur career by becoming a finalist in every national tournament he entered.
On his way to the 1995 Olympics, Joe scored upset victories in all his international competitions. Joe completed his amateur career as the surprising finalist in the 1996 Olympic trials and boxoffs. Boxing as an unaffiliated and an underdog contestant, Joe overcame every boxing and political opponent on his way to the finals. One heartbreaking loss in the finals of the Olympic boxoffs made him the 1996 U.S. Olympic Alternate in the Super-Heavyweight Division at the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Since turning professional, Joe has won 28 straight bouts including 25 KO's, 0 losses. A confident but realistic Mesi sets his sights on a heavyweight title shot within the next year to year and a half. He believes the likes of Lewis, Tyson and Holyfield will be replaced by newer and younger contenders, Kirk Johnson, Klitschko brothers, Chris Byrd and John Ruiz. He stays focused on his goals to be included in that latter group.
