Comments Thread For: Showtime To Disband Entire March 12th Card, Reschedule Fights

Two days ago, March 12 carried an attractive centerpiece for boxing’s 2016 first quarter. The date now represents a gaping hole in the schedule.

On the heels of the postponement of the welterweight title fight between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, event handlers have opted to disband the entire show altogether.

Not only was the best fight of the 1st quarter cancelled, but all the fights. Terrible. The promoters and Haymon should've had a replacement in training who could step in if either Porter or Thurman got hurt.

Thurman got into the car wreck a week ago. 3 weeks should be enough time to find a replacement.

This is another one of the "little things" that Haymon/PBC has not gotten right IMO.

That sucks. I hope all of these fights find new homes quickly and don't just disappear altogether.

Porter should be allowed to take a stay busy fight in the meantime at least. He's been off for a long time.

You have the perfect comparison. UFC had the EXACT thing happen to them this week when a guy got injured and pulled out the fight for the main event. A day later they have a replacement in place so that the show can still go on. And I think UFC had a week less time(their event is March 5th) from when both guys pulled out. And according to reports Thurman was injured a week earlier. Plenty of time to get Porter another decent opponent to fight that night. This is now a mess with the other fights being scrapped and maybe ruining relationships with Mohegan Sun, CBS ect

ironic that I would be in the role of actually defending Haymon, but it is actually VERY rare that a marquee matchup gets cancelled due to injury and a suitable last-minute replacement is actually found. I can think of Lewis-Klitschko getting made when Kirk Johnson got hurt, but no other high-profile (main event) replacement comes to mind......
