Is the Top Rank HBO partnership starting to show some cracks?

So we all have seen it the last few months the subtle jabs from arum towards HBO about how they are not willing to spend money and there just is not enough air time for all the promoters and fighters. I just ask because I think we are at a breaking point in a good way. Even haymon is now working with pretty much anybody even GBP and HBO as we are seeing with the khan canelo bout and even the GGG fight.

The reason I ask this tho is Arum made it clear that he doesnt like how HBO tries to run a monopoly which is surprising to say the least with the haymon litigation and their partnership over the years and what not. It makes me wonder if top rank is about to cross the street again and start working with showtime or maybe another network as well.

In my opinion if top rank starts using hbo and showtime its better for boxing. When you have competing networks trying to out bid the other bigger fights seem to be made. it would also open up more avenues for his fighters and chances for fighters like crawford to fight guys he cant now.

This thread doesnt have a specific question just wanted to start a dialogue about how it seems like all the networks/promoters/managers are at a breaking point and something has to give as far as them working together. It seems like they all tried to goto hbo and blackball haymon but they are realizing their is not enough air time, money, or even top level fighters to truly work with hbo alone.

What do you guys think do you sense maybe some good things breaking soon? Or do you think the litigation against PBC and such is just to much to overcome and the the norm will continue?

Arum seems to eventually get to this point with HBO every year. This isn't the first time he has complained about the network trying to act like a matchmaker.

I do think it's better for the sport if he is forced to start working with Showtime again. Healthy competition amongst several strong networks and promoters means that we get a chance of having a better mix of interesting fights.

This actually isn't new. Arum has been criticizing HBO for many years. One time he even took Pacquaio off HBO and put one of his ppv's on showtime because he was pissed. He needs to be careful though because I don't think he has that option anymore. Showtime doesn't air a fight unless Haymon says its ok. Ezpinoza is not running an independent operation. Top Rank has a load of talent and I'm sure HBO wants to continue to do business with them, but they rightfully should not give him control. As we have seen, one promoter having control over a network leads to nothing but trash.

HBO as of right now, is absolutely trash in terms of boxing content, whereas PBC actually has some compelling match ups on the way. So it's real interesting you say that

I was referring to how Haymon destroyed Showtime.

I dont think it shows they are at odds. If HBO forces Arum to make walters/loma and crawford/postol instead of giving all easy fights, I think that is a good thing.

The problem for Arum is HBO is reducing their budget and their top stars (once Manny leaves) will be non TR fighters. This suggests Bob will lose some of his influence.

Oddly, his best move would be a deal with Showtime for some of his fighters like Crawford, Ramirez (168), Nonito and some others so tey can fight Haymon associted fighters.

Anyone got the video or article where Arum said this? That seems like a really odd thing for him to say with his nice position with HBO + him saying PBC is doing the same. Although I would agree that his nice position with HBO (pre-Peter Nelson) might not be as nice now so maybe he's just throwing rocks trying to hit as many victims as possible idk.

I think many people foresaw this with Arum's previous remarks about Nelson. I thought perhaps Arum would change his tune since Nelson was just a favored son previously & now he's a guy with real power with HBO, but seems that didn't or at least hasn't happened yet.

My question would be is this a real opportunity for TR/Arum or is he stuck with HBO?

Some anti-PBC people have suggested Haymon & Showtime are in bed together & due to that situation Arum might not have the ability to get on Showtime. Idk if that is true or not, but Showtime seems to have a lot of unofficial PBC shows on Showtime or "friends of PBC" promoters on Showtime. I just know I don't see a lot of content from guys who don't have a relationship with this PBC entity or Haymon & Arum would definitely not be on that list.

Arum Annoyed, Jabs HBO Over Treatment of Lomachenko/Postol
Right now there are no dates set on the boxing calendar for WBC super lightweight titlist, Viktor Postol and WBO featherweight beltholder Vasyl Lomachenko - which irks Bob Arum of Top Rank, who promotes both boxers.
