As a Eastern European, former U.S.S.R. really, he not only doesn't come with a built in base, but it's damn hard toget people to notice. If GGG was Mexican or American, he'd big freaken huge.
Having said that, it's probably only a Matt of time before he starts breaking through in a big way.
Canelo versus Khan is a mismatch, so what. It's not like Lara was begging GGG before IBF ruled GGG must do his mandatory.
100 of fights they passed on. That's hyperbole. I can't think of one. Even if you contend Ward's so called offer was legit, it wasn't a go until late 2016.
Lara's Twitter blunt aside, the man simply isn't calling K2, so it is rightly assumed he is just talking.
He wants to be overpaid, and probably thinks if he can make GGG call him, it'd be easier to get that big check.
I wonder why else he doesn't reach out to K2.
Ok, name 98 potential opponents that have agreed to get in with GGG, that are even as legit as a mandaotory defense.
GGG should want all the MW titles. It makes it so any MW who wants to be champion has to come see him.
Really, Ward couldn't even give enough free tickets away fighting his last fight in Oakland.
By few fighters are doing numbers like GGG is. GGG is clearly one of the top draws in the sport. Not bad for a Eastern European fighter who has been in the u.s. Since 2012.
I do think Saul and GGG will fight in Sept. And I'm gonna be there live.

IBF often has some wonky ratings, but they are strict with there mandatory rules. It's why Karo Murat was mandatory to Hopkins, or Nadjib Mohammedi mandatory to Kovalev. Neither were good fights, but necessary for both Hopkins & Kovalev to keep their belts. Same situation here with Golovkin.
Keep in mind, Golovkin wanted Canelo next, who wasn't ready, or Billy Saunders, who flat out declined. Each would have prevented the Wade fight from happening since unification fights trump a mandatory, but as you know neither fighter wanted to fight Golovkin next, so here we are.
People buy these tickets because they want to see Golovkin fight live, obviously, and the guy has a fan-base. This isn't true for all fighters of course, for example, put Lara vs Zaveck as a main event and perhaps only 500 people buy tickets at full price.

The knock and only knock I have against ggg is how old he his and how's he's never fought a really good/great boxer. And everytime I get excited about one of his fights they just never pan out. Like Ward/GGG. Chavez ( the one destroyed Lee not this version).

Face it, outside the hardcores, nobody give a **** about GGG-Ward. It doesnt matter to anyone except the .0001% of boxing fans who oh so desperately want and pray for someone to beat GGG, and they think that Ward is that guy. Too bad Ward didnt think so and would only accept a GGG fight if it was postponed a year and change later.....

#1 GGG
#2 Canelo
#3 Cotto
#4 Jacobs
But still get called out. GGG passes the eye test and has skills but so did Broner before he moved up in weight and fought much better fighters! I don't think GGG has ever been less then a 18:1++ favorite. He needs to give up the mandatory chase and now go for GREATNESS or be happy never making the boxing Hall of fame. The MW is ran by him and EX-139 lbers.
