Reid was the only fight that really in the balance.

Calzaghe won against bika and Hopkins

Calzaghe arguably won 5 of the first 6 rounds.
He lost the 11th and 12th when he was exhausted.

7-5 Calzaghe. The pt. Being taken wasn't that bad either. I actually though Joe landed plenty of clean punches. The rounds he won weren't hard to score.

Watch the fight closely and you'll see Calzaghe getting hit with the cleaner punches, especially on the inside.

Tell me, who do you think won the 12th round, and do you acknowledge Calzaghe's ineffective aggression missing tons of punches?
He lost the 12th round. That round he was exhausted. Bika got hit with a lot of clean punches. Calzaghe just has no power. As far as ring generalship and output Joe won majority of the rounds. Bika is tough. I remember thinking Joe would lose to Kessler after this fight and low and behold he outclassed him.

Hopkins should have been counted in the 11th
44:15 seconds left to the body, not low has him touching down.

lol another misconception just like the bika fight. outclassed him? it was a close fight. once again crowd noise does not tell you the story of a fight. watch who is landing not who is cheering. the calzaghe kessler fight was about as close as froch kessler 1 with calzaghe and froch just getting the better of it. notice the 2 different results though? location location location. crowd noise crowd noise crowd noise.

Agree to disagree. I had Joe winning 8 rounds clear every time I watch it. Froch/Kessler was about as close as a fight can get. Both guys missed eachother a lot.

hmmm and calzaghe didn't miss kessler a lot? the crowd made the same noise whether he landed or not so i guess it didn't really matter.

There are certain criticisms of Joe I find it hard to defend against. I hold my hands up, you can certainly make a big case for him losing the Hopkins fight, drawing with Robin Reid(by his own admittance, a poor performance), slapping etc etc..

But! The reason people like him, I reckon, and the reason people(me included) think he was an exciting fighter isss because - he was beautiful to watch. The guy had style, great in and out movement, fantastic timing, he took chances, wasn't afraid of a dust-up, blurring handspeed, a bounce in his step. All of these things made him watchable. He had a fan-friendly style, one which you could argue appealed to casuals rather than hardcore boxing know-it-alls.

Sugar Ray Leonard loved him, Emmanuel Stewart respected him, that's enough for me.

Say what you want about his record, the quality of guys he fought, whatever. When he did fight, he was good to watch, and that - to me - is everything. We've all got different tastes, we all appreciate different things in a fighter. For me it's the poetry of their movement. That's why, while respecting Froch for his crazy record, I'll always hold Calzaghe in higher regard.

                  Horses for courses.

He was exciting, but I wouldn't say he was beautiful to watch or that he had great timing.

A lot of his fights were very scrappy, where he concentrated more on volume than accuracy.

To me he was beautiful to watch. But like I say, that's my taste, it's subjective. He may have overwhelmed opponents with volume, but just because he didn't sit back and pick every punch doesn't mean he didn't have great timing. Watch the Lacy fight again, Bobby.
