He's not close to retiring so this this thread is an irrelevant hypothetical

I personally don't believe an Alvarez win should be enough. But it would help tremendously.

Don't see how you came up with that. He's around 34. Most boxers start to age rapidly at that point. You can't act like everyone is a Hopkins.

Prior to Trinidad, Hopkins had beaten:

          John David Jackson
          Glenn Johnson

Both of those names are better than anyone on Bumlovkin's resume...
Not to mention facing RJJ well before Hopkins reached his prime.

GGG seems pretty well preserved. He's barely lost a round. A lot of elite fighters fight at a high level into their late 30's, so I'd bet GGG has a good 3-4 years at this level left.

I would also think with him becoming a pretty major draw that the big fights are going to start happening for him. Canelo will really lose his credibility if he goes too long without fighting him.

He's probably not in the Hall of Fame quite yet. But in another year or 2, I'd bet he is.

You say "fight at this level". At can-crushing level? Sure! Taking on real competition at that age is what ages a fighter overnight. No, not "a lot" of fighters fight at a high-level into their late 30's and those that do are considered elite. How is Golovkin elite? Who has he beaten to be considered elite? Even Wilder has 1 name on his resume. Until he Genady faces a challenge he's potentially another Bute, Price, etc. I like the guy as a fighter and am not wishing him any ill will, but let's stop giving undeserved credit and stop pretending he's accomplished anything other than being entertaining.

No you don't like him, why lie? Wilder has a name on his resume? Who's that, and what makes him more of a name that 7 on Gggs resume?

boxers who rely on speed and fast reflexes do that obviously is not ggg's style.his style ages well he turned pro pretty late in his career and has hardly taken any damage also he will always have his great punching power even into his late thirties.

First off, I tend to think GGG is elite, but he doesn't have the greatest resume. I hope the next year we see him fight Canelo (which I think will happen eventually) and Jacobs (which seems less likely because of the nonsense of boxing politics) and he'll prove it. We'll see.

However, I think he is past the level of Bute, Price and even Wilder. Most of the guys GGG has fought were in the top 10 in his division. He's in a weak division, sure, but if he's making top 10 guys look like cans, don't you think that says something about how good he is?

And I would certainly think at least Martin Murray and David Lemiux were comparable to Bermaine Stiverne. His best win, and only notable win, is Arreola. It's not like Wilder fought Klitchko or something. Or is Spzilka the name on Wilders resume?
