Floyd Mayweather says B-Side Golovkin should face Canelo at 155

"With Canelo being the A-side, do I honestly think that Triple G should have went down to 155? Absolutely," stated retired undefeated former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on a future showdown between WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez and undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Although both fighters have a written agreement to face each other following their next bouts, Canelo has yet to admit that he's a full-fledged 160-pounder and reportedly prefers for the fight to take place at 155 pounds. Naturally, Golovkin thinks it's crazy to fight for the middleweight title below the division's 160-pound weight limit.

"To get something, you have to sacrifice something," commented Mayweather, who recently explained to FightHype.com that because Canelo is the A-side when it comes to making that particular pay-per-view event, Golovkin should be willing to make the sacrifice if he wants the opportunity to prove that he's the bigger star. It's a stance that even Mayweather himself can relate to, having made a number of concessions - including weight, glove size, and ring size - back in 2007 when he wanted a shot at then pay-per-view star Oscar De La Hoya. "To get something, you have to sacrifice something, so what is he willing to sacrifice to be at the pinnacle," Mayweather reiterated.

          So GGG thinks hes special
          • Pacquaio jumped up 2 weight classes for his shot at greatness against Oscar
          • Mayweather jumped 1 weight class & bowed to ODH demand for his shot at greatness
          • Canelo Went Down in Weight for his shot at greatness against Mayweather
          • Ward Jumped up 1 Weight Class to Excell his claim for P4P Surpremecy against Kovalev

All these fighters were willing to take the risk necessary to claim and take the Glory they want, but GGG is not willing to do it. Go Home Coward YOU SCARED!

Don't forget about Bernard Hopkins, the guy that some people on that website had the audacity to compare GGG to, he moved down from 160 to 156 to fight Dela Hoya then he jumped up 2 weight classes to fight Tarver at 175 at the age of 40, or Duran who moved up from 135 to 147 to fight Ray Leonard then to 154 to fight Tommy Hearns then to 160 to fight Hagler. Roy Jones moved up from 54 to heavyweight, Ward moved up and will fight Kovalev. Moving up in weight to chase greatness is not a new thing, a lot of greats did it and GGG is not willing to take that risk as of right now, which puts him at a level that siginficantly below the atg level and he seems to be ok with that.

I agree with Floyd. Taino Canelo calls the shots. Mr. 97k PPV Buys doesn't even deserve a shot with Canelo. When Mr. 97k PPV Buys reaches 2.1 PPV buys, then he can talk. He should stIck to fighting bums. Go fight Cotto.

no... Canelo doing 300k to GGG 150k on PPV doesn't equate to Floyd doing 300 to oscars 1million plus before him...

Both Canelo and GGG sell out big arenas...Canelo just happens to be Mexican and have a larger fan base. 157 is fair..not like Canelo is not a middleweight already, the lineal and WBC champion, and weighs 172 on fight night...

Apples and oranges Floyd, but you wouldn't know the difference anyway...

You're proving his point in your second paragraph. Canelo has a larger fan base, as you wrote. He's done bigger PPV's, bigger crowds and is therefore the A-side.

GGG doesn't have to do anything he doesn't feel obligated to. He can wait for Canelo to settle into mw until he's good and ready for the fight. But as it stands, he's going to have to make some sacrifices in order to make a big fight and right now he and his team appear content to take on subpar opp while hoping that big fight falls in their laps on their terms. Not likely, although I agree that this fight can be made at a reasonable 157.
