Mikey got TERRIBLE advice and screwed himself over. Wasted years in his prime. Should of just played out his contract then he could of left and signed to whoever he wanted. Instead turned down Gamboa fight which he probably wins and countless other fights while not getting paid and will likely lose in court anyway. And even if he wins you can't get back those years. Talk about plans backfiring.

You don't get to rip up a contract just because you want a new one when it's convenient for you. He comes from a family of fighters and trainers who all know how fighter contracts work so if the contract wasn't good should of never signed it in the first place. Fact is the contract was great at that time he made more money then most fighters in his weight or that stage of their careers. Got more HBO and prime time showcases then most fighters and never complained about the money he was seeing. Then somebody got in his ear and said you arrived you can make more money and the idiot listened and refused to honor his contract and it backfired.

You got a bad contract that you signed as a young fighter? Play it out and the next contract get better terms. What you don't do is say I refuse to fight at all and stubbornly waste your best years. That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

But that's the issue. He thinks his contract is over and TR doesn't

Further, the suit claims that his promotional agreement "improperly provides Top Rank the ability to extend the agreement indefinitely, essentially rendering the contracting fighter an indentured servant of Top Rank."

"Mikey has no further obligation to Top Rank under the 2009 promotional rights agreement that he signed," attorney Bryan Freedman, who is representing Garcia, told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "It's very clear for a number of reasons, but that's our position. There are a number of reasons why it's invalid. Even if it hadn't expired under its own terms, Top Rank acted not only as a promoter but also as a manager under the definition of manager in California and that is against the law. This is an absolute fairness issue."

He never thought his contract was up or made any comments in public that his contract was up until the Gamboa fight. Then he started complaining because he didn't like that fight and then started complaining about money. I don't care what his joke lawyer is filing in court. If he thought his contract was up why didnt he speak about that BEFORE the gamboa fight instead looks like hes just grasping at straws to find a loophole out after the fact because he didn't want to fight Gamboa and because his handlers thought he could get more money.

My point whoever advised him that this was the best course of action needs to be fired and removed from his camp because not getting paid at all and sitting over 2 years on the shelf wasting your prime years is doing more damage to his career then arum could with whatever contract he signed. Even if by some miracle he wins the case he still lost because you can't recoup years. And if he loses the court case he is double f'd. He has no one to blame but himself he signed the contract.

This is what i read. I have no idea what Tillhills is talking about. Maybe he can link it. Anyway Mikey wants control of his career and Arum isnt letting him go so he shelved him.

He's in one of those never ending TR contracts. Fight Gamboa for $2 mil but you have to sign this extension or fight Gamboa for $100k without an extension. And by the way, if you lose you still owe us 2 fights. And if we get you another title fight within those two fights you'll owe us 3 more fights. I'm not saying that's how Garcia's contract is but I've heard of contracts like that. I know they offered Chavez Jr significantly less money for fighting GGG without an extension.
