Mikey got TERRIBLE advice and screwed himself over. Wasted years in his prime. Should of just played out his contract then he could of left and signed to whoever he wanted. Instead turned down Gamboa fight which he probably wins and countless other fights while not getting paid and will likely lose in court anyway. And even if he wins you can't get back those years. Talk about plans backfiring.

You got a bad contract that you signed as a young fighter? Play it out and the next contract get better terms. What you don't do is say I refuse to fight at all and stubbornly waste your best years. That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Further, the suit claims that his promotional agreement "improperly provides Top Rank the ability to extend the agreement indefinitely, essentially rendering the contracting fighter an indentured servant of Top Rank."
"Mikey has no further obligation to Top Rank under the 2009 promotional rights agreement that he signed," attorney Bryan Freedman, who is representing Garcia, told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "It's very clear for a number of reasons, but that's our position. There are a number of reasons why it's invalid. Even if it hadn't expired under its own terms, Top Rank acted not only as a promoter but also as a manager under the definition of manager in California and that is against the law. This is an absolute fairness issue."

My point whoever advised him that this was the best course of action needs to be fired and removed from his camp because not getting paid at all and sitting over 2 years on the shelf wasting your prime years is doing more damage to his career then arum could with whatever contract he signed. Even if by some miracle he wins the case he still lost because you can't recoup years. And if he loses the court case he is double f'd. He has no one to blame but himself he signed the contract.
