I'm not sure what Nelson is trying to accomplish with Gonzalez here. Not like his big fights are gonna be PPV and they can build him toward that. His moves with Ward, GGG and Estrada have been questionable -- and seemingly biased but let's see how things progress.

As I said, Pascal/Kov happened because nobody else in top10 took the match. How hard is that to understand? What was the alternative? Sit and do nothing?
Chocolatito is fighting a top10 opponent next. With Estrada's outrageous money demands and Inoue saying he's not ready, they're all one as good as another.
Ward's moving into a new[ish] division after a long layoff. Give him a break before throwing him to the wolves. The fight is solid. Look at the LHW list. There were 3 possible names for him - Barrera, Shabransky and Beterbiev. Considering he has a 3 fight contract with Kov at the end, 2 of those 3 should be in the front. It makes sense to start with Barrera, especially with Artur coming off should surgery.
Postol just won a title, and they should give him a decent defense before throwing him back to the wolves.
And no, he should not mandate any fight. We already have diva fighters picking fights, 4 abc organizations with 30 belts each mandating fights. Last thing we need is to have the television network mandating fights.
The network's responsibility is to assist in promoting fighters and make sure they make a profit.
Alternatives were offer the fight to Gonzalez (who most thought beat Pascal) or maybe mend fences with Haymon to make other fights possible.
No he isn't. I saw his opponent today. we were teased with ruenreong (spelling) but the choice (according to bad left hook)was hernandez (who he chose) and Mcwilliams Arroyo, a dude that last fought in 2014, losing to ruenerong.
We understand the ward fight but Shabrynsky is a better fight and doable. Pointing that out isn't crapping on the ward fight.
No, Postol doesn/t need a decent defense, he and crawford need to fight.
So you are ok with him refusing/not signing off on fights not mandating fights that are long overdue? Come on.
The fights I mentioed bring profit as well. There is no rsik to profit making these fights other than someone loses. Since an undefeated record isn't a big deal, why not make the better fights?

Ali vs Vargas is a good fight
The Pac/Bradley card is pretty good overall but would have been great with Uchiyama/Walters as was being buzzed about
Matthysse/Herrera is OK
Overall I'd say the six month schedule is about 3 stars worthy. Nothing special.

They're trying, wish we had better fights, but hopefully it'll get better.
Only interested in the Herrera vs Lucas and I wanna see Ali put a hurting on Vargas, really not worried about the rest of the menu, but I'll watch anyways.

And no, they should not make TC/Postol fight immediately. Those are #1 and #2 in the division. If they fight immediately, then what are they gonna do afterwards?
Regards to Ruenroeng, I didn't know about that, but honestly I do not blame Roman for not taking that fight, ever. I've read articles and watched that guy fight. He's ultra dirty and has a god awful reputation. Wasn't he like a convict or something?
Shabransky may be better than Barrera, he may not be. They're both unproven, undefeated and highly rated. Ward chose Barrera. If HBO started nitpicking between them and refused to televise the Barrera fight, the whole industry would go into chaos. They didn't show the Ward/Smith matchup. But refusing Barrera/Ward in favor of Shabransky/Ward? That's ******ed. Your problem is with Ward, not HBO.
This thread is based on assumption that HBO should refuse some of these fights. That's a ridiculous concept. If you want to try to fault someone, blame the fighters or the alphabet organizations.

Estrada has said in numerous interviews that even though the million dollar plus purse sounds amazing, truth of the matter is they fight in a weight division where the general public has very little care for. Sad but true.
I would love the rematch myself. Estrada was supposed to fight in December, it got pushed to January.. Then he suffered a hand injury and has been further pushed back since. He recently acknowledged the fact that he needs to fight more, sadly his injuries prohibited him from doing so lately.
Idk man.. Something about Roman rubs me the wrong way. Perhaps it's his generic "good guy" image, or the fact that his bandwagon fans irritate the **** out of me. I really want the rematch so I can watch Estrada solidify his spot as the best boxer out of Mexico currently.

Anyway, HBO has some exciting fights in the coming months.
Valdez vs Gradovich
Abraham vs Ramirez
Roman Gonzalez vs Juan Hernandez(Churritos is underrated, I think he can pull it off) - also, Juan has a similar style to Estrada in regards to lateral movement and combinations, could this be the set up fight for Estrada vs Roman II later on his year? Awesome.
Ward vs Barrera is a good fight.
Khan vs Canelo is unexpected, to say the least.
Ali vs Vargas is pretty darn good.
Plus many, many more. It's not amazing but it's pretty freaking solid. I'd say 3 stars it about right.Last edited by Aztekkas; 02-10-2016, 04:47 PM.
