Did you know about countries and nationalities when you were 6? That's the point. He didn't know where his boxing hero (Tyson) was from until his father told him (at the age of 6). He was a child.

I would be able to tell when someone was different than me, especially if I was blonde with blue eyes and someone was visually the complete opposite.
