I wonder if the Bradley & Matthysse cards had anything to do with Hershman leaving...
First off thanks for supplying the Broner Spike link in another thread

To be fair with the Matthysse ratings . I feel like PBC / Haymon purposely put on fights with known fighter when he's on. Matthysse / Ruslan had to go head to head with Chavez / Fonfara & Matthysse / Postol went toe to toe with Broner.

It's like Haymon was like cool you can leave but I'm going to throw some curve balls your way to ensure you don't do great ratings and lose some traction.

Last year Overall PBC was #1

If you have to pick 1 channel then going by ratings and competitive match ups the NBC did a better job then HBo IMO.

If your barometer is exciting fights then I'd have to look at the full sched but it'd be HBo or Spike but don't think this should be used at judging the best network.

        HBO isn't going anywhere.

        Haymons money is getting short

Not sure, HBO had some monster ratings last year: Canelo Kirkland, Wlad fights. NBC started out so so ratings wise, then it was all downhill. Then you notice HBO has 9/10 p4pers, all the Ppv draws, all the guys that can pack the stands. TBF Spike had probably the best action fights, but they're getting pitiful ratings on basic cable for HBO level spending

HBO doesn't care about ratings....they don't have commercials ffs. They've repeatedly said that as long as the subscribers keep considering boxing important, they will keep it on air. The PPV model is good for quick income as well. They can't do PPV without a steady boxing market.

And they had some of the highest ratings of the last few years anyway.

Agree with the P4P and most of the post.

I said NBC because I don't include PPV and even their monster rating would be comparable to some of NBC worst ratings plus they were better more competitive fights on paper

You can't compare those ratings 1-1. HBO is premium cable, with like 30m subscribers. NBC is in every American home. Good ratings means very different things for network TV vs premium cable.

Compare HBO ratings for their original programming vs the HBO ratings for boxing.

HBO Boxing is getting smashed by their original series which avg 2 to 6 million viewers.

Under 800k viewers is VERY bad for HBO Sports compared to the rest of the programming on the SAME channel.

                  VERY BAD.

Eh they've always had an occasional dud. Like I said, mixed results last year. Some of the fights did huge numbers even by their standards. But its Showtime you gotta be worried about. Their ratings are shocking lately, despite far bigger purses than they were offering a few years back. It's like they've lost much of their core boxing viewership, much harder to recover for a premium channel

You don't get it. Kirkland-Canelo was their highest rated fight by far and it still pails incomparison to their top original series viewership.

I have no idea what was HBO's top 5 rated fights. All I know is that HBO boxing is hardly a money maker for HBO compared to their other programs.

The fact that the heads of HBO don't care much for boxing doesn't bode well either.
