Should Pascal have been allowed to continue?

I didn't watch the fight either live or in replay.
I imagine it looked like some sort of torture.

Last two rounds didn't feel good.

I think some in this thread really wanted to see Pascal die.

this is the last round of the fight. he took sustained punishment throughout the fight. simakov doesn't go down from big punches, but instead starts to lose his legs after a light combination that didn't even land. he actually wobbles a bit while moving prior to any punches land.







credit to roach for stopping a fighter he hardly knew. that's not easy. training a fighter in the gym is different from working his corner during a championship fight. working a corner is an unappreciated art. you really get an appreciation for it when you watch them go 15 rounds in old fights. he wanted to stop the fight a round sooner. i would have loved to see that. it was sad to see jean pascal, a once durable and dangerous, if flawed fighter, reduced to that. he's done as a top fighter, and that fight did him no favors.

a few more rounds of that, or a brutal knockout to finish things, could have ended his career or worse. in time, if he cares to, he can come back and take easier touches in montreal. they'll still watch him fight.

I totally agree, Roach probably saved Pascal from permanent damage. He was shellshocked by the power and would have gotten brutally KO'd after another round or two of punishment.

I think Kovalev would've carried him for 12, brutally beating him to the body.

He really didn't care, he would've killed him or left him with internal bleeding or something.

The ref was just awful.... Pascal threw literally 5 punches in the 5th round and took heavy shots w/o response multiple times in the 5th IIRC.

I would have been fine with it being stopped after the 5th. Pascal had no chance and Kovalev was going to punish him as along as he could.

No way. Pascal has a family plus a livelihood to protect.

I'm always in favour of erring on the side of caution and stopping fights early.

Pascal was just playing possum, he was letting kovalev punch himself out then was gonna come on strong late rounds. Pascal was robbed

i thought it was a horrible stoppage.

it should be up to the fighters whether or not they want to continue. pascal wanted to go out like a G, instead roach was too overtly protective of him.

pascal's worst round was BEFORE the round fight after he quit but roach let him out to continue fighting in that round then when he did better AFTER that round, when roach decided to pull the plug.

i hate these jay nady types who are TOO OVER PROTECTIVE of the boxer.

This is still boxing. A certain amount of physical damage is required.

Some people who are blatant advocates of early stoppages need to watch another sport.

Pascal was still able to defend himself and was still throwing punches. If anything it should have been the referee who should have called the stoppage, not roach.

You are a piece of ****. Watch Champs and realise why what Roach did was a good thing, the fight hadn't even been competitive the last few rounds, what did you want to see?

Pascal didn't WANT to continue, he just had too much pride to quit. It can be a dangerous mentality for a boxer to have.

Good on Roach for stopping it when he did. He knew Krusher would have turned him into a pile of permanent applesauce with legs had he not intervened.
