I think as a fan you can absolutely get mad if Wilder chooses to pursue this route. Unifications only take precedence over mandatories because of how the rules are set out by the major orgs; it doesn't magically make fights any better or less crappy. And Wilder vs Martin would be one crappy ass fight.

Fans don't have to passively sit back and take that nonsense just because the orgs consider it permissible. Wilder taking this fight would be seen as a clear duck, as well it should.

Do you really want to call Martin a champion? He's a paper titlist, nothing more until proven otherwise.

Belts are crap but Wilder wants all of them. To unify. Its all the rage lately. Blame Duva for this one.

I'm cool if it's a unification, not cool if he drops the WBC to go after the IBF (don't know why he would have to drop it, but others in this thread seem to think this is a possibility).

That being said I'd still prefer the Povetkin fight and hope Deontay fights him next and if not next then fight Martin then Povetkin right after.

Povetkin's fault for postponing the January fight. Martin winning the title was the best thing to happen to Wilder. If Povetkin wants a shot his promoter better stop trying to have the fight in Russia. Wilder is not fighting in Russia. I wouldn't suggest any boxer fights in Russia. To many problems over there with steroids and corruption over there right now. Now his promoter better come to his senses and realize he doesn't have any bargaining power. Wilder can unify with Martin and then unify again with the winner of Fury/Klitschko. And Povetkin will be on the outside looking ******. That's what he gets for scheduling a fight in November when the January fight was supposed to be finalized in October. And then telling the WBC he wouldn't be ready to fight in January. Povetkin played these same games with Klitschko. Now he's the odd man out.

I saw this coming from a mile away. The moment Charles won that belt I could see a unification trumping his mandatory.

Wilder said earlier that Povetkin is still his priority/#1

So really bad on him if he vacates

I hope not. Martin is a bum in my opinion. Nothing to be gained by knocking him out.
