Wilder to fight Martin instead of Povetkin?

saw this tweet from a reporter named Ron Lewis, from The Times.

"I'm told Deontay Wilder likely to fight Charles Martin instead of Povetkin. Not sure if it's a unification or just for IBF title #boxing"

lol. not sure if the source is reliable, but wouldn't exactly be surprising, would it?

Once Martin won that title I figured they'd do this. They'll pay povetkin step aside money, win the ibf belt, and then drop the wbc belt. They just need a belt to make him more relevant, doesn't matter which one.

as much as i want him to fight povetkin because of how long this fight has been talked about i have no issues with unification. ofcourse it will be BS if he fights Martin then drops any of the two belts.

How is anyone surprised by this?

This gets wilder another belt and is far easier than Povetkin. IMO wilder didn't give any indication in the Spilka fight that he can defeat a top tier HWT. I had him down on my card when he KO'd Spilka.

Beat Stivernne (in a damn good performance) then fight-Molina, Duhappas, Spilka and Martin.

Jesus. . . if Wilder actually picks this fight then drops the WBC, I'm going to transform into a hater

This is not surprising at all and would be the way in which I would manage Wilder

Wouldn't be surprised if its Povetkin's side wanting some more time.. So in between Wilder fights Martin then Povetkin after when he's ready. Tha Boxing Voice interview didn't Povetkin's side say they were looking into fighting an opponent before wilder?
