  • Comments Thread For: Canelo-Golovkin And the Unnecessary Buildup

By Jake Donovan - At the risk of being a buzzkill, the plan leading up to this year's middleweight super fight not only pales in comparison to how we reached that point a year ago, but is a step in the wrong direction.

The quick and easy story line behind the two middleweight matchups leading to a hoped-for September showdown between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez

I think it takes a lot of wishful thinking to even consider the possibility of this fight happening this year. There's no way Canelo''s first fight at the full 160 lb limit happens right after fighting Amir Khan at 155. It's a clear indication of Golden Boy''s plan to milk the title and increase Canelo''s star power

It's apparent that Golovkin's not going to get a decent opponent in before the rumoured Alvarez fight, so why not let him have a home coming party in Kaz against an opponent of the WBA/IBF choice?

Khans over with this fight he just moved to ww....gbp couldn't do any better how do you sell this fight khan doesn't have power to be in the ring with canelo...respectable power ok but no were near enough to back up canelo in a fight...smh fight night he looks huge khan stands NO CHANCE his chin wasn't there at 140 what makes him think at 160 he has a chance? ??

Two popular fighters. But total mismatch. Especially with no rehydration terms.. Canelo will enter at 175+. Con will enter at maybe 160 if he's lucky. But both get a payday. I don't see the triple G fight happening, at least not at 160. Which is a shame..

This isn't build up. More like "not happening any time soon."

If Bradley beats Pacquiao expect to see Canelo vs Bradley 2.0.

Canelo is not fighting GGG. Everybody said wait until Canelo picks his next opponent and that will determine if he'll fight GGG. Bringing up a WW who has never even fought at SWW proves Canelo is dead set on doing his own thing. He'll fight the winner of Bradley vs. Pacquiao after he beats Khan.
