Haymon drops Warriors boxing?

When your irrational hate overtakes good sense.PBC ratings were never that good to begin but have fallen off a cliff too. This ain't about Showtime it's about PBC losing hundreds of millions in year 1 with event that can't draw ratings, can't draw fans and because the fighters make so much money can't afford to put the best haymon fighters together. Jacobs vs Quillin was first announced as a PBC event too. Then got shipped to Showtime because each fighter made 1.5mil. When you pay guys like Lara 1 mil to fight tomato cans in front of 100 people in a rainy tent that just doesn't make business sense and can't sustain itself. But if Lara makes that much how much do you have to pay both Thurman and Porter to fight each other and not tomato cans? The losses are mounting and these fights too expensive so Haymon being forced to send them to Showtime to pick up the tab.Comment

Maybe, just maybe, it'll CBS/Showtime that gives PBC the network deal.So Thurman/Porter is being branded as a Showtime bout. What's the point of having the big fights on Showtime anymore if they can go this route instead? Isn't the point of this PBC venture to maximize viewership? Every single PBC bout should be on cable TV while the PPVs are handled by Showtime.Comment

I think they should put most of their effort into ShoBox so they can create new stars and not be so dependent on Haymon's stable. I just can't comprehend how having a fight on CBS (regular cable) is going to persuade people into watching Showtime (premium). That's pretty much the biggest issue with the current PBC formula: showcasing cards on multiple networks under one banner leads to varying degrees of success in the ratings. Jacobs/Quillin bombed on Showtime and I'm pretty sure the ratings would've been better on PBC. Wilder's lowest ratings this past year have been on Showtime. There are other factors in play, but one thing remains: If it's on free TV, viewership will be greater than if it's on premium TV. The ratings for Porter/Thurman on CBS will obviously be higher than if it was on Showtime. At least Uncle Al is saving money by letting Showtime take the reins.I think it's to build back interest in showtime boxing because their ratings have fallen off a cliff. Which is unfortunate because they've had the best fights recently. So, I think this is to get people familiar with them again and having a pretty good fight like this should work.
Nonetheless, Porter/Thurman on cable TV is the right decision and it will probably get 2+million viewers.Last edited by kiaba360; 01-28-2016, 05:15 PM.Comment

It's not a PBC event. It's showtime Championship Boxing. Which means they probably bought the fight and decided to show it on CBS....their ratings have been abysmal On showtime, maybe they decided to get more eyes on this big fight and air it on their parent channel.
I think Showtime paid for this fight...otherwise it would be PBC branded...Comment

There will be no PBC logos. that's why it's not a PBC event. It will be produced and branded as Showtime on CBS. It will have showtime producers, showtime announcers, showtime logo's ect.Comment
