Why are you comparing this to HBO? It's a totally different platform. HBO doesn't need to draw 2.5mil viewers that's the difference. Ballers on HBO features one of the biggest stars in hollywood right now. The Rock. And it drew on avg 1.7mil viewers on Sunday nights. And it was a massive success for HBO and was picked up immediately for season 2 and made HBO countless millions. PBC ratings so bad that you and others playing dumb like you don't know the difference between premium cable that has about 1/3 the amount of homes compared to FOX. There are shows that get canceled on FOX for drawing this many viewers. Such as Minority Report which just got canceled on FOX after it debuted with over 3mil rating and then went down to 2.07. The debut was branded a flop and was quickly slashed to 10 episodes and then canceled.

And Minority Report pulled in BETTER ratings then PBC just did. Ratings like this for any other programming on FOX get's your show canceled. Comparing it to HBO to try and justify it is laughable.

Even you has to understand the difference between a TV show FOX and a sporting event. Of course if a TV show does only 3 mil, its a flop. Just like if the Super Bowl does the same ratings as Monday Night Football, which is consistently the most watched show any week, it would be a flop.

IN your mind if a PBC show doesn't do what another TV show does, you say "it flopped". Yet f an HBO boxing show doesn't do what a TV show does, you say its ok because it has less viewers.

"profitable" at its core is simply taking in more money than you are putting out, regardless of ratings. And obviously that can mean different things to different content buyers. Do they want a 10% ROI? 30%? If the numbers are decent enough are they willing to break even for a season or 2 to build it? Would they even have the option to pick up additional seasons or would Haymon want the freedom to move it to another network? These are all questions that can have varying answers based on the individual goals of the networks in question, and honestly these are questions that nobody on this forum, myself included, has the answers to.......lol

Very true. One adage that always seems to hold true is you need to spend/have money to make money. IMO, if Haymon and his associates spend the money wisely (marketing/promotion) they might be in for a great year.

I'm not sure what the undercard guys made but it didn't seem like they exceeded $3.5 mil for this show, which is reasonable IMO.

PBC has lost reportedly in the hundreds of millions just last year alone. These fights are not profitable and the ratings will not get FOX or NBC or any big network to invest their own money once the PBC money runs out. There needs to be a massive change in the ratings for PBC to prove this is a sustainable business model.

Every comparable on the stations these PBC shows air prove the ratings are bad. Want to start with SpikeTV? during the same time slot re-airs of Cops do better ratings then PBC. On ESPN we saw the PBC ratings dip to around 400K worse the WNBA on ESPN2. On FS1 the toe to toe fights are getting about the same ratings as Golden Boy live did on FS1 last year problem is they operated on a shoe string budget similar to ESPN friday night fights. PBC paid Austin Trout more money to fight on FS1 once then Golden Boy paid all their fighter in an entire year. And FS1 paid Golden Boy. If you are FS1 why would you pay PBC a dime for something that gets the exact same rating Golden Boy got for their prospects and is cheap to air for a PBC product that cost 10X more money to air?

But no matter how many essays you write out on this forum, one things stays the same no matter what. PBC and Al Haymon will continue putting on great shows that BOXING fans will appreciate. When CBS, ESPN and Fox put on boxing it allows more viewers the opportunity to watch. As a boxing fan, you should want the sport to be available for more people to watch.

Sure they will add things to expand their viewers provided it makes financial sense. No network puts out programming that loses millions which PBC does. And the only reason PBC is on Fox, etc is because they are paying the networks. That's it. Smaller networks can't afford to pay these purses with so little return. So either PBC turns into ESPN Friday Night Fight type of programming cheap fights full of journey men and low level prospects or they need to drastically increase their ratings because it just makes no business sense for any network to buy a product they know will lose millions each card just to "expand" their viewers. LMAO And duva got dropped because what network will turn down a free lunch? PBC offering to pay networks millions and cover all the purses means there is no risk they make money even if PBC flops. It's good business to not reup with duva where the network pays duva instead of pbc willing to pay the network. That's a no brainer.

The problem is pbc is failing and losing hundreds of millions and it's a ticking time bomb till the money runs out. Once that happens no network has a reason to stay in business with pbc. Pbc business model just doesn't work.

I'm not a Haymon cheer leader, but I don't think your argument carries as much weight as you may think. First, I'm willing to bet that the average American has either a cable or satellite carrier, so they are paying for local channels as part of a package. Second, boxing is a niche sport, so outside of a colossal fight between two superstars, viewership won't vary much between premium channels and local networks. I do agree that Haymon's strategy of milking careers with big money for easy fights is bad for boxing. That's one of the reasons that he branched off on his own; premium networks were tired of footing the bill for bs fights.

those channels are free. whether or not people pay for a cable package and them watch them is completely irrelevant to the discussion. those channels can be accessed for free. HBO must either be pirated, or you pay 15-20 a month.

you can get a cupon from the government to get a box that will get fox, ABC, CBS, etc.
