Loeffler: Jacobs vs Golovkin would be a BIG fight especially in New York

It's because they know how much of a risk Jacobs is and don't want to step on Sulliman's toes for September.

If this was Omar Chavez we're talking about, the fight would've been signed sealed and delivered.

Just think about it.

How much of a sanctioning fee is Omar Chavez bringing in comparison to GGG after he beats Canelo?

Why would the WBA be worried about Jacobs being a risk to GGG? and you live in a dream land ignoring the fact that GGG fights on HBO exclusively and no Haymon fighters have been on HBO in ages...but keep making yourself believe there is a big conspiracy if it makes you feel better.

So let me ask you this. Let's say the WBA orders the fight for April/May and it goes to purse bid and Haymon wins, but where the fight takes place (i.e. HBO/Showtimes) causes problems. The question is will GGG be stripped if Haymon/DiBella/HBO can't resolve the conflict?

I can't imagine K2 signing a contract without an out clause for purse bids. That's a pretty standard contract when signing network deals. Even Eubank Jr had one with Sky Sports. If the goal is to unify the division there has to be an out clause for purse bids.

I don't see it happening. Haymon overpays fighters and HBO's budget is tight. So they won't reach an agreement through negotiation.

So it goes to purse bid.... Haymon obviously wins and K2 will have to pull a Duva because of HBO ties. Or if they outbid Haymon he will pull a Quillin/Korobov.

There's too many what ifs.

The more logical route is to go after Lara because Haymon probably doesn't give a **** because Lara has little economic value to PBC.

That's what I'm dying to find out. I know in the past HBO has given certain fighter's permission to go fight a mandatory on Showtime. Pernell Whitaker was an HBO fighter who went on Showtime to fight a Don King fighter. I want to believe they'd give Golovkin permission if they lost a purse bid.

The whole Kovalev/Stevenson situation is a little different. When Kovalev pulled out of the purse bid, he wasn't stripped of the WBC Silver title, so he's maintained his mandatory status for Stevenson, it's just a weird dynamic. Golovkin/Jacobs is more straight forward, and I don't think HBO would want to damage Golovkin's reputation in allowing him to be stripped as the champion, where Kovalev isn't the WBC champion so he wasn't risking his title.

HBO's budget might not be that tight if Golovkin's offering over $3mill for BJS. But yeah, network is a major issue, hell MSG/Barclay will be a major issue. I wish a reporter would put Peter Nelson on the spot and get an answer out of him regarding Golovkin being in that situation.

I don't know what Haymon's intentions are. If he's trying to choke out HBO's market share, then he doesn't allow Lara to fight Golovkin even for ridiculous money. Anything that makes Golovkin a bigger name for HBO would only hurt that agenda. But who knows if that's really/still the case.

Even if Peter Nelson would work something to where he'd let GGG fight on another network for one fight (i.e. Jacobs), and HBO would recoup compensation for their accommodations via other pots of money available is also negotiable.

Ross Greenburg and Kerry Davis were both very close allies of Haymon. After Greenburg left HBO, he did some work with Showtime/PBC. Don't know if he's still with them.

The HBO/Haymon rift initially started with Haymon helping Mayweather move to Showtime. The last straw was when Showtime/GB/Haymon counter programmed the Martinez/Chavez ppv with Alvarez/Lopez, which followed Haymon/Schaeffer taking Alvarez & Broner to Showtime after HBO sunk millions into those fighters as their future stars. Haymon was flat out attacking HBO at that point and they didn't have much choice but end the previous business arrangements.
