The current super middleweight division traces its beginning to 1984, when Murray Sutherland defeated Ernie Singletary for the International Boxing Federation version of the title. The World Boxing Association created its version of the super middleweight title when reigning Lineal champion Chong Pal Park defeated Jesus Gallardo in 1987 (Park had been IBF champion before relinquishing the title to fight for the inaugural WBA version). The World Boxing Council crowned its first champion in 1988 when Sugar Ray Leonard defeated Donny Lalonde in a fight that was also for its version of the light heavyweight title.

what year did Hagler retire in again???lol

Right, unlike Ggg, Floyd had belts in Laras division, and had Lara as #1 contender.

Ok???? and unlike GGG Mayweather was already the face of boxing,a 12 time champion, atg and hall of famer whos legacy was intact and Lara was nowhere close to his level..Ward has a better resume and is the greater fighter and GGG could have used him to up his status

It's the same dynamics, except Lara had way more of a mandate.

Hagler/Leonard was 87. Too bad we never got that Marvin Hagler vs. Murray Sutherland classic. That would have been one for the ages.

lets use catch phrases to make our opinion sound more important shall we.

Floyd fighting Berto... daring to be great, floyd fighting paquio 5 years removed.... daring to be great. floyd fighting oritiz... daring to be great, floyd fighting maidana (with supersized gloves) daring to be great.

now imagine if hagler was from kazakhstan. how much harder would it have been for him to get the best in the ring? yet we have people pretending that everything starts out equal and a guy from the states and a guy from kazakhstan start out with the same status and opportunities in boxing.

I think it'll be very similar. Haglee had more a rough start in his career because he reach the same success as a amateur and took a few early losts but once he found his stride there wasn't anything holding him back. It took him a while to gain the championship because he didn't have a strong backing.

In that regards GGG has been more fortunate getting the full support of HBO.

Both guys will be Under-appreciated fighters because there biggest wins will be against what certain fight fans consider smaller fighters but really who cares what they think.

Hagler is not under appreciated. He's an all time great and considered one of the best middleweights in history. Golovkin has done nothing to even be in the same conversation as Hagler.

The fact that you're putting Golovkin and Hagler in the same category confirms how terrible you are as a poster.
