The interpretation of the dictionary definition of elite is subjective. My definition is being a standout in a minimum 2/3 year period with other elite fighters on the record. Some fighters either are or appear elite their whole careers eg. Mayweather, others are more like shooting stars and flame out. Others appear elite but don't have the resume to back it up - Golovkin. Yet others seem to fall somewhere in between as they appear elite and have very good fighters on their resume - Ward .... but arguably not elite fighters. Now you want to call Froch, Kessler and Abraham elite - I don't, and that is not me hating on Ward it's just my opinion about Froch and his opposition. Now if you want to call Froch a warrior I'm fine with that.

It's all debatable so why not chill? I have Rigo as elite. He not only looks the part but he diminished Donaire in fan's eyes. And Donaire was considered elite by nearly all.

Now Walter's beat Donaire as well. But you have to figure that Donaire was fighting where he shouldn't have been, Walters was an enormous featherweight and he was also feasting (somewhat) on Rigo leftovers. So I don't see Walters as elite - yet.

BTW - although pound for pound counts for something it is not the be all and end all - Golovkin should not be as high as he is, Broner never should have been and Bradley should be higher until it's proven he is on the slippery slope downwards. In general far too many higher weight boxers get into the PfP ratings at the expense of lower weight fighters.

good post....we can agree to disagree, but by definition.....the real definition.....they were elite.....Froch and Kessler were among the top 3-5 fighers among their divison and for years...they were elite

if the fight actually happens, sure I will root for ward. However, ive given up on ward and all of his bull****. no longer a fan after hes been fighting all of these bums and letting his career rot when hes a top 3 p4p fighter, hes a complete waste of talent and i cant defend his antics anymore

It’s boring, but Ward wins. As was evident against Froch, Ward doesn’t have a problem with powerful opponents. His defensive style will only be beaten with slick skills. Kovalev’s got the power but not the skill advantage.

I give the edge to Ward....He is faster, more complete fighter with a better defense

Kov has the eraser but IMO wont land consistently enough to stop Ward, which is the only way I can see him winning.

Ward would be best served fighting him on the outside or all the way in....Kov is a Killer @ mid range

Ward has one of the best jabs of this generation and throws it to the head and body well...Kov can be a little stiff and doesnt have much head and torso movement, so that will leave openings after being jabbed to the body

          Ward on points
The issue, Ward doesn't possess the power to keep Kovalev back. If you don't have that kind of power, it's going to be a very hard night for you. Boone managed to knock Ward's ass down, Kovalev hits a lot harder than Boone and more accurately. Ward on the other hand, didn't have much power in SMW, now he's at LHW... he's gonna really need fight hard.

Ward could pull it off and win a UD, I don't see it. 12 long rounds, verse the most fierce offensive fighter in the sport with jaw shattering ****ing power.

The same people that say Ward will win UD, thought Hopkins would school Kovalev How'd that go?

It's not power that you need, it's the ability to deflect power. Ward can do that all night long.... in fact, it's the only thing he does exceptionally well. Ward will wrestle Kovalev on the inside, tying him up in a messy fight and stop him from throwing those long levers.

If Golovkin had a resume that good certain posters on here would already be calling him the greatest middleweight of all time.

              The double standards are disgusting.
GGG won Olympic silver and world amateur championship gold.

He's an undefeated unified world champ and has KO'd 6 top 10 ranked opponents in the last 3 years.

Tell us what Ward has done in the last 3 years then have a think about your own double standards.

LMAO...same dudes who were on here ready to kill Naazim three days ago are on here treating him like the messiah today...funny how quickly mofo's go from love to hate. One thing about boxing is everyone has an opinion but the only opinion that matters is the performance of the winning boxer on that given night. All the accolades, ranks, fanfare and all that means shhh come fight time.

Hopkins is a 175 years old.....the guy who dropped Kov before wasnt a puncher so whats your point??? Anybody can be hurt

Its not about power, its about timing, where you land and technique

If Kov hit so hard...why couldnt he knock out Hopkins, who is older, slower, punches less???

Power is so overrated....you actually have to land conisistently for it to matter

Ward and Hopkins are two totally different fighters.....Ward snaps his jab and commits to it while Hopkins paws with it trying to get you to lead so he can counter you with his straight right

Ward jabs to the head and body....Hopkins is a counterpuncher.....Ward at this point is a more complete fighter and throws more punches than Hopkins, hell he'd beat Hopkins if they ever fought

Also Ward actually throws combinations, Hopkins doesnt.....Ward has better footwork and speed than Hopkins and fights well inside, out and mid range

You need to watch more boxing or go to youtube
