Persons informed of the talks told USA TODAY Sports that Willie Monroe Jr. and Gabriel Rosado are two of the names being considered as opponents. The persons requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of negotiations.

I don't have a problem with Canelo facing Monroe at the full 160 weight limit to get a feel for the division. On the other hand, Rosado's best days are behind him so Canelo wouldn't gain much by fighting him.

Both fights are cool with me, either should be a fun match.

If he is fighting an easy guy it's the doings of mother hen Oscar. Canelo likes fighting difficult opponents as he showed by fighting Lara, Trout and and Cotto. Oscar is over protective. Canelo is the 2nd best middleweight in the world and should be fighting GGG, Saunders or Jacobs. Rosado is a game fighter but I think he would get slaughtered by Canelo and it would prove nothing. Monroe is not such a bad opponent. He lost to GGG but no middleweight beats GGG.
