Jones' defense technically wasn't great, but his natural athleticism were such that you couldn't land a finger on him until time finally caught up with him after decades of boxing.

Ali when older still managed to outhustle a massive puncher in Foreman with his defensive skills.

    Jones better natural defensive abilities
    Ali better technical defensive skills

Agree 100%, once RJJ lost a half step he could be touched and hurt. Ali knew he could take a punch but his defense was still there even in the Foreman fight. People who haven't seen the fight think he just let Big George tee off on him til the KO, fact is he did solid work both defensive and offensive to exhaust Foreman.

Technically speaking, Ali by a longshot.

RJJ was almost all athleticism, fundamentally speaking he did all kinds of mistakes and went against best practices.

Defense is how much you avoided getting touched, how much do you avoid getting hit. It's Roy Jones by a mile. Whether it's technical or natural, it's still a way of avoiding getting hit.

Come on Larry... No reason to bait. Ali was a much better defensive fighter and not many are comparable to Ali when it comes to defense.

Sad, today most fans would call Ali boring.
