Both guys are hot and on fire right now, late 2016 is the perfect time. Just let both guys have a fight in April/May with the hype building for a fight between them and that will be enough. Not sure why Merchant is taking this stance, he should naturally want to see this asap as he might not even be around by 2017.

What a crock of shh..this fight has been cooking since rumors that Canelo got beaten up in sparring surfaced years ago. This is almost as bad as "he needs to grow into 160 regardless if he walks around weighing more than his opponent".

Canelo wants to enter that fight/negotiation on a level playing field..... or Golovkin won't get the fight..... simple.

Surely you can understand that not everyone in the world is solely focused on paving the way for Golovkin?

The JMW Canelo would be at a disadvantage if he fought Golovkin now, AND YOU KNOW IT.

Canelo has never fought at the middleweight limit, and he has never fought a genuine middleweight..... Canelo will be much better given full camps that are specifically designed to prepare him for 160..... AND YOU KNOW IT.

Bullsquat...Canelo just 25 he's at least 2 yrs off before he hit's his prime. I'm all down for this fight to happen 18 months from now. There's no reason for Golden Boy to rush this fight in two yrs will be much bigger.

Bullsquat? Canelo has had all the necessary experience at this stage. He's not green. Another two years benefits Canelo but can't possibly help Golovkin at 33 or 34. The fight is unquestionably better in 2016.

Mayweather has NOTHING to do with this, the man is retired. And for your logic? GGG probably could beat every fighter Floyd beat but what sense does that make when Floyd is a welterweight.

If GGG is able to beat Canelo in spectacular fashion then good for him, doesn't take anything away from Floyd though. I like Mayweather but if Canelo ducks GGG then put that on him and his fans. I fail to see why Mayweather or his fans would care about the outcome in his fights.

Actually, I didn't say anything about beating Floyd's opponents. And I said the exact thing you just said, the it doesn't make sense for Floyd to care, but they do.

My point is recently you have the Mayweather's and Canelo supporters coming out in force trying to give him cover for this fight.

Why, Canelo put himself in this position. The dude's a MW, and he has a belt that is rightfully GGG's to fight for. No one forced him to step in front of GGG's path, but he did.

And if Ring mag doesn't take action, well it's Goldenboy owned, can we even expect them to do the right thing. Ring is on record saying Canelo shouldn't be allowed to horde the Ring Title while not fighting top MW.

First off, he is Pro-Canelo. And the Mayweather's have been coming out in force trying to take a shiiiit on this fight. Why! They suddenly care about Canelo's health and career.

The only reason I can think of for the Mayweather to make a concerted effort is they want GGG to fail. White conspiracy and all.

As for Merchant, he wants Canelo to wait GGG out, same as Floyd does. As Floyd always did. Like De La Hoya says.
