Both guys are hot and on fire right now, late 2016 is the perfect time. Just let both guys have a fight in April/May with the hype building for a fight between them and that will be enough. Not sure why Merchant is taking this stance, he should naturally want to see this asap as he might not even be around by 2017.

Canelo wants to enter that fight/negotiation on a level playing field..... or Golovkin won't get the fight..... simple.
Surely you can understand that not everyone in the world is solely focused on paving the way for Golovkin?
Regardless as to the ignorant (casual fan) rambling about how Canelo is really a middleweight..... the fact remains, that he is not.
The JMW Canelo would be at a disadvantage if he fought Golovkin now, AND YOU KNOW IT.
Canelo has never fought at the middleweight limit, and he has never fought a genuine middleweight..... Canelo will be much better given full camps that are specifically designed to prepare him for 160..... AND YOU KNOW IT.
And please, DO NOT reply to me wanking on about rehydration weight, because that is horribly ignorant..... and I will point out why.
Tam Golovkin know that Canelo will take that fight on reasonable terms.

The only fight bigger than this fight is MayPac II. This fight doesn't need to marinate. Crazy how people who complain about boxing being a business turn into businessmen when it's their favorite fighter.

If GGG is able to beat Canelo in spectacular fashion then good for him, doesn't take anything away from Floyd though. I like Mayweather but if Canelo ducks GGG then put that on him and his fans. I fail to see why Mayweather or his fans would care about the outcome in his fights.
Come back to me when GGG is fighting bigger men.
Canelo isn't ready for GGG, but was ready for Mayweather 2 years ago?
My point is recently you have the Mayweather's and Canelo supporters coming out in force trying to give him cover for this fight.
Why, Canelo put himself in this position. The dude's a MW, and he has a belt that is rightfully GGG's to fight for. No one forced him to step in front of GGG's path, but he did.
He wanted to be MW champ.
Now Mayweather's and Canelo apologist need to stop making excuses for Ginger.

No one can take action with the lineal, so Cotto and Canelo have screwed it up
And if Ring mag doesn't take action, well it's Goldenboy owned, can we even expect them to do the right thing. Ring is on record saying Canelo shouldn't be allowed to horde the Ring Title while not fighting top MW.
It's a joke of a title until GGG finally gets a true shot at it.
However, I'm not surprised anyone who reps TMT would want a set up like this, Floyd made his career off of making it appear he is doing something special. Fighting former champ after former champ. Just waiting until they have lost a few steps.

The only reason I can think of for the Mayweather to make a concerted effort is they want GGG to fail. White conspiracy and all.
As for Merchant, he wants Canelo to wait GGG out, same as Floyd does. As Floyd always did. Like De La Hoya says.
The Mayweather's act as if Canelo is being forced into this after Cotto. BS! He has a fight in between.
And no one forced Canelo to take a belt GGG was mandatory for. He did it knowing dang well what the deal was.Last edited by Progrssive_Jedi; 12-25-2015, 06:29 PM.
