also...think about it like this...at the beginning of GGG's tenure w/ HBO...Ward was still the guy. Arguably the face of HBO boxing. protection can go both ways....

Then why did Lampley say on the fight broadcast and on Fight Game that ward/GGG wasn't a fight to see?

HBO was reducing its boxing budget as subscriptions dropped. GGG got higher ratings than Ward and made less money. Why would HBO risk GGG losing to Ward and risk losing his ratings (which tend to drop when a fighter loses)?

Ward makes far less as a commentator than as a fighter. They also let his deal lapse and signed him to a new deal.

It's sad that we never saw him fight Ward. That would have proven greatness.

uhmmm, because maybe thats Lampleys opinion?

Oh wait, or is this another "problem" where you infer that HBO brass are telling Lamps to shape a narrative for them, but you wont come out and actually say it?

You pathetic clowns asking for Ward, ya'll must have forgot

"Hey Ward, wake up. Why are you talking trash about others? Speak for yourself. If you are trying to make a name for yourself by mentioning my name and building your fight by talking about me, then be a man and tell the truth," Golovkin told BoxingScene.com/Allboxing.ru.

"At our meeting with HBO they asked both of us whether or not we are ready to fight. You remember our answers........I said 'yes' and you said 'no.' Something about your shoulder or promoter. I am not interested in your reasons, I only heard your 'no.' But you remember HBO made it clear back then that this fight needs a lot of time to build up. Then why are you talking **** about excuses?"

"When you make such provocative statements, don't even think that it will make [promoter Tom] Loeffler [of K2 Promotions] buy into it. You have not been interesting to anybody for a long time already, and surely he won't build your name for you."

"So go and build your brand on your own. Although everyone already knows what you are, and that's why they don't go to watch your fights. You shouldn't worry about who I fought or who I'm going to fight. Worry about yourself. You and the rest were lucky with the Super Six tournament where you got opponents by contract. And look who are you fighting now? - boxers ranked fourth or fifth in England. Although you do know very well that for all of the people in the United States there is still an open question - who is the best between you or [Andre] Dirrell. If you aren't able to call in the morning, then don't attempt to crow."

"When I say that I am ready to fight any middleweight and that I am ready to move up to 168 for a big fight, then I'll put my money where my mouth is. And I have nothing left to discuss with you. As a true man you are dead to me."

But on a serious note, Canelo will face GGG. And yes, he's gonna' strip him of all his dignity. Should be fun to watch these negotiations go down.

Btw, it's true. I agree; Lil G only cares about money and fame. Dude has had ample opportunity to unify the middleweight division and just takes step aside money time after time. FOH.

Oh you want a big payday and exposure? Sure! Here's some scraps! Don't eat them doe, you won't make weight

Ive stated that outright numerous times. HBO protected GGG from Ward to protect their investment IMO.

                Doesn't matter. Ward/GGG isn't going to happen.

I love how there are so called boxing fans in this thread who OPPOSE the idea of the lineal middleweight champion fighting the #1 ranked middleweight in a huge unification bout! Only in the whacky world of boxing will you find this kind of ******ed logic. "He should fight Ward doe, who is currently two weight classes above him!" God forbid Golovkin wants the lineal crown of his own division and to actually unify all of the belts, the nerve of him!!!
