HBO was reducing its boxing budget as subscriptions dropped. GGG got higher ratings than Ward and made less money. Why would HBO risk GGG losing to Ward and risk losing his ratings (which tend to drop when a fighter loses)?

Ward makes far less as a commentator than as a fighter. They also let his deal lapse and signed him to a new deal.

I love how there are so called boxing fans in this thread who OPPOSE the idea of the lineal middleweight champion fighting the #1 ranked middleweight in a huge unification bout!
