Interesting he was allowed to go to Cuba and train, given his status as defector. Maybe has to do somewhat with the movements toward normalization of relations with the US, allowing people of Cuban heritage to visit Cuba.

Well, hope he can come back with a statement win. No doubt they're going to line him up with Lomachenko next

        Good to hear.

Sadly his prime is gone and, thanks to promotional issues and inactivity, we never got to fully see it. Regardless, he's still my favourite fighter and I look forward to his return.

          How do you know that?

You state it so definitively that it makes me su****ious.

Like there is no room for argument and you're privy to info none of us has. You haven't even seen dude fight in a year.

I think you're just pre-loading excuses in case he loses...

At any rate, I like Gamboa and hope he comes back and cuts a swath through his division.

          War Gamboa

He turns 34 next week, has fought 6 times in the last half decade and is fighting in the wrong division. For a guy with Gamboa's style, 34 is getting up there in age and

I still expect him to be very good as his talent level is ridiculous, but the fighter that blitzed Solis and Salido? Nah.

I don't care for excuses. I still regard the current Gamboa as the best fighter from 126-135 in terms of talent so I still fully expect him to win.

Personally I'm glad Gamboa is back. I hope he fights 3-4 times next year and gets a title shot next year.

It will be interesting to see what weight class he fights at because there are a lot of great fights he can be in.

              Perfect Examples
              Loma vs Gamboa
              Jorge Linares vs Gamboa
              Francisco Vargas vs Gamboa

Also does anyone know what promotion he's with? Did he mend the fences with Top Rank? Did he sign with Golden Boy or is he still with 50 cents team?

I think it's awesome that he went back to train in Cuba. Maybe they were able to fix some of the mistakes he had been making.

I am curious as to how he got into Cuba but how he got out as well. Does this mean that other defectors can go back to Cuba to train? Will Cuban boxers be allowed to fight professionally?

Curious about this myself. Gamboa goes back to Cuba is a magazine or blog article at very least. Hope someone has or will be releasing something like that. Would be a good read imo.

I've heard people that have tried to leave Cuba get treated badly in the past. Wonder if that sorta **** is still going on to some degree or not.

Go google: AIBA, Cuban boxers, pro boxing. (I get tired of posting the article here).

Basically doe, Cuba signed over their amateurs professional boxing rights to AIBA/WSB back in April of this year to avoid them getting involved in the scandalous business of the pro boxing we all know & love lol.

I suppose there could be an interesting legal battle in the future with this if a Cuban boxer were to escape Cuba & attempt to mount a career with Arum, Haymon, Oscar or whoever as who knows what if anything Cuban boxers might have been told about this situation or if it is fully legal, but I think this is likely to have deaded the Cuban boxers pro careers in the US or other countries for awhile.
