How that $800k fee was even being disputed was weird to me, but good to hear Cotto did the right thing as GGG had nothing to do with the Cotto vs the WBC sanctioning fee bs.

That was always been the plan. Cotto agreed to pay the $800k step-aside fee but not the $300k sanctioning fees..

Well thats dumb. If he had no intention of keeping his belt he would be $800,000 richer today. Cotto, is just a dummy who thought he was being smart by trying to prove to everyone that he was the man.

that literally makes no sense at all. the only reason he paid the 800k was so he could keep the belt but then he dropped the belt anyway....did he know he could just drop the belt and not pay ggg anything? is this man the ******est person ever?

he was negotiating to try and get the sanction fee lowered from 300K to something much smaller than that. He and the WBC were at a stalemate for a long time, I guess, until it got close to fight time and Cotto still wouldn't budge so he got stripped. Then Cotto, like a whiny baby who didn't get his way, tried to weasel out of the 800k he already agreed to pay to Golovkin. And he tried to make it a moral issue by fooling the public with consistent "1.1 million" comments, when really the WBC was only asking 300k of that. For him to try to not pay GGG after the only reason they were allowed to call Canelo/Cotto a middleweight title fight would be criminal. Without GGG stepping aside for the 800 grand, that fight has no title at stake.

If he wants to keep the $800k he would have to drop the belt prior to facing Geale as GGG was the mandatory. The Canelo fight was just an optional defense as it was a huge HBO PPV fight.

Of course he paid the $800,000. It was common sense he would.
