Comments Thread For: Arreola Floored, Rallies To Edge Kauffman In Split Nod

Chris Arreola vowed during fight week to be the Grinch who stole Travis Kauffman's Christmas.

If crowd reaction was any indication, then it was the judges who played that role as Arreola escaped with a 12-round split decision Saturday evening at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Scores were 114-113 Kauffman and 114-113 (twice) in favor of Arreola, who survived a 3rd round knockdown to rally late in pulling out a close and debatable victory. [Click Here To Read More]

Did anybody score it for Arreola? I was rooting for Chris but I thought Kauffman won. He scored a knockdown and controlled most of the rounds I feel.

I wouldn't get too excited, they bumped guts at the weigh in. Those guys are buddies. Rematch? For more money?

I scored it a draw but it could of went either way. No question Arreola is fading & he needs a new trainer. He is predictable & has gone as far as he can go with Ramirez. Kauffman has pretty decent handspeed for a big guy. He looked so much thicker then Arreola. Big body with huge legs. Arreola is now a gatekeeper. I don't see him beating any top contenders at this point. Kauffman may have lost the decision but he will get more fights. I had Arreola winning the last 4 rounds. Other then that good shot in the 12th Kauffman faded. Arreola may have 31 KOs but I have always questioned his power. Big HWs seem to take his shots well & they wait to counter. Vitali Klitschko kicked his ass. Adamek outboxed him & made him pay for coming in out of shape but it was Stiverne who really exposed him in my opinion. In both fights Stiverne walked through his shots & set traps. He showed other HWs that you can use Arreola's lack of power & aggressiveness against him. He comes straight ahead throwing shots & leaves himself open for huge counter punches. Kauffman & his team had a game plan & it almost worked. I scored it a draw but it could have easily gone to Kauffman. I didn't think there was a robbery but by no means did this fight do Arreola any favors.

              Time To Hang It Up

Chris Arreola needs to hang it up before he gets hurt by a real good heavyweight. He is way past his prime and his skills are diminishing. He was once promising but now he's over the hill.

He's had a solid career but it's time to call it quits, or maybe consider going to another trainer. But even that I'm not sure would help him more than still being a gatekeeper of the division.

He may be 34 but his no defence approach has caught up to him. He reminds me of Lamon Brewster. Too many punches in his prime & it has caught up to him. If he is going to continue there is no point coming in under 250. Guys like him & Chisora are better fighting at 250-260 because they can absorb more. The weight loss doesn't make them any faster & it has clearly not helped either of them. They can't absorb the big shots as well. I always think of Rahman in his Tua rematch. He came in at 260 & said before the fight he wanted to add weight so he could take Tua's power better. He threw 80 punches a round & went the distance. The bulk helped him take some big hooks. I heard Sugar Ray & the commentators talk about Arreola's punch resistance after the weight loss & Nazeem Richardson spoke of it too...
